I'm not sure but wasn't that "wash mode" or something on 458 when you are in neutral and switch off the engine and it doesn't activate the parking brake?

Turn the car off in 1st gear. Don't put it in N. If you do, you will see the car wash mode activated and the electronic brake will not be on. The electronic brake will come on automatically if you switch off in 1st gear because it will revert to 'park'.

Auto wash, no. Trusted hand wash, yes. Some hand washes in my town pull the car through the rinser with a motorized track so the car wash mode can come in handy.

I would be terrified of getting the rims nicked and notched while getting into position on the motorized track. But thats just me.

I use "Car Wash" mode when taking the car in and out of the trailer by winch......or when you want to push start it and drop it in to gear:)

I'm glad someone said something about this I used to pull back on both paddles .Then turn the key off and wait for the carwash mode to release the key in park. Now I just turn it off
in gear and it goes in park.I got so used to the F430 and the Scuderia were you had to pull back on the paddles to put it in neutral in order for it to start and there was no park

Yes, if you turn the engine off with the shifter in N, then the car will roll freely (no parking brake is set). This could be a real problem if you park on a hill.

Turning the engine off in 1, puts the parking brake on.

If you want to leave the car running unattended, put it in N but manually turn on the parking brake. There is a small lever located low under the dash near your left knee. Pull that lever while in N and you'll see a red "Park" message appear on the dash. I warm my car up in the driveway sometimes (letting it idle unattended for a few minutes) and my driveway is on a hill, so I had to read the Owners Manual to figure this out. Shifting the car into 1 releases the parking brake.

Me too ... I dont know what the pic means when I turn my car off. It appears to me everytime i turn off my car. It doesn't matter if it was on 1st gear or P or N. Probably it will change soemthing in the rear grills so the water will pass by and ends up in the floor.
