I think I remember folks discussing watches at one point.....can anyone recommend a place to have my automatic Ebel serviced other than sending it to Movado (their parent co.) for service? It's beyond the 5 year service guarantee, so I thought I might save a few bucks by taking it to a smaller (but good) shop. The winding knob broke off of the post.

    Thanks,
    K-

I can help you with getting it to a very good watchmaker. Do NOT use Tourneau...they will rip you off like you've never been ripped off before.

Shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to help.

Eric - your PM box is full.......

BTW - Mike pulled the "never heard of him" gag, which I fell for.

I may call him to see if he can 'freshen-up' my 1963 Hamilton.

    Regards and thanks again,
    K-

Glad I could help Kevin. Mike is a character and I figured he'd pull your leg a bit.

John (watchmaker) is top notch and previously worked for Breguet. He'll take care of you so long as they can get the parts needed. Some manufacturers of modern timepieces won't sell parts in order to have you get ripped off by them for service.

    BTW...I cleared my PM box.

    Eric,

I would also like to get in touch with your watch contact. I have a Cartier Tank Francaise that I've normally had serviced at Cartier in NY. However, I was there last week and the watch came out worse than it went in. They handed back the watch after a routine service indicating the watch was done. I pointed out that the watch was no longer working. They hadn't noticed, but they replied that they can fix it by sending it for a full service back at the factory. It's a somewhat specialized watch because it has a combination quartz and mechanical movement for the chronograph, so I've tended to take it to Cartier, but this last experience has me looking for an alternative. I'd appreciate if you could PM me the contact info.

    Thanks,
    Peter
