I have bought from them before, but was not particularly impressed. Be prepared to have suspicions about the integrity of their bidding process, add about 20 percent commission, get charged German VAT on top of that, pay very high shipping costs, send them an unsecured wire payment or pay extra to use PayPal, get hit for additional US customs duty and service charges, deal with their marginal English language capabilities, and wait around while they "process" things. The merchandise was OK, but everything else was a complete downer. I suspect others have had similar experiences, as their hammer prices lately are down considerably from what they once were.

I have attended many of their auctions and have been able to make some very good deals. Especially when the started years ago and nobody knew about them.

Probably you have to see the bidding process to understand how it works. Each lot usually takes only seconds because there are simply too many lots in a day to waste time. There is simply no time for cheating. No chandelier bids possible. You really have to be prepared and have your home work done.

They usually start bidding wit the minimum listed or the second highest absentee bid. Each bidding only takes seconds until it is finished. If you cannot attend it is you can not respond to what is going on. But trust me they don't cheat on you.

I remember one auction of a huge Porsche collection with a Seasons Greeting card for 1951 signed by father and son Porsche which climbed in no time from € 5,- to more than 70.000,- !

All the handling here in Germany works fine and the shipping cost are reasonable.

I can only recommend them even if that will make things more expensive in the future.

I picked one item, an Ascari magazine and as requested e-mailed them indicating I was interested in buying. Never heard back. What's the problem? tongascrew

You can not buy from a catalogue before an auction and after only those items not sold are available for 4 weeks at the minimum price plus commission. You have to check the list of results which is published usually within 2 days after an auction. Once you know how it works it is pretty straightforward.

That was my experience too. I usually works better if you call and speak to Marcel or Angelika directly. However, if you have dealt with RM, Gooding, Bonhams, etc. before it still seems rather fraught...
