I remember about a year an a half ago reading a little article in a magazine, think it was Modified Luxury and Exotics, and it was talking about a new lavish automotive country club development in Georgia. I cant remember the name of it but it was a huge development, race track with a landing strip on the straight, clubhouse, equestrian area some fishing lakes and other sports fields. If anybody knows the name or could point me in the right direction thatd be awesome.

Article about the one in Dawsonville in the Alpharetta paper the other day. Says the residents are fighting it pretty hard up there. They don't want the development. I hope that it happens. Would be a great place for people to go other than Road Atlanta. Could hit the track and then a nice day in the mountains afterwards.

from the people i have spoken with, they were lead to believe that the zoning and permits were wrapped up. apparently not. from my experience, zoning and permitting for something like this is virtually impossible to get.

Not sure if this is what you're referencing but it took me about 20 minutes sorting through old emails to find it as I couldn't remember exactly what it was called either. But it is Victory Lane in rural Georgia.

This was from about exactly 2 years ago.

I tried to put something like this together a couple of years back, but the only real way to make it work is to use an existing facility. in 2005 getting money was the easy part... today it would be impossible unless you had private funds and did the whole deal in cash... and at a minimum for a 2.5 mile track and basic facilites construction, land etc... $15 - 20 Mill... and that just aint gonna happen any time soon.

However the idea is sound and I love it! more power to you if you can make it happen!

There are two hurdles they have to overcome, zoning and the economy. Once they bring in 3 million dollars there are no refunds if it doesn't get built. I think the idea is great, especially at $35k for a lifetime membership, but are there enough people with the cash to throw down in this economy?

Victory Lane is a different one. That is the one down by Savannah that Phil Hill put his name on and his son was involved. This one is in Dahlonega/Dawsonville area and similar in nature but not quite as big. I used to get a very constant stream of attention from the Victory Lane guys, even up until the last Cavallino event I think. Might have been the Cavallino before that though, I don't remember.

35k gets you the first shovel of dirt. My guess is that they will collect all that money, have the groundbreaking ceremony, and then file for bankruptcy the next week. I hope I'm wrong, but the numbers just didn't add up for me. I would believe it more if they said it was 200K each and that they needed 10M to start. 3M will barely get you a fast food joint.

Why not run your cars at Road Atlanta or if you like ovals, Atlanta Raceway or was it Speedway in Hampton? Just wondering.

    Ciao,

i'd like to see a car storage club of some sort. i don't know how you would work out privacy and liability issues.

i purchased my car from a guy that had rented out a small warehouse space for his cars. floors were done nice and everything was very clean. climate controlled.

a "garage" away from home. i don't know how you would secure access and such. you would probably need a couple guys that all knew each other.

I have been kicking this idea around for a while. I have looked into several places in the north... ATL/Roswell/Cumming/Norcross. ranging from 600 sf to around 2500. Most have a small office/bathroom. Rent typically 600-1400 / mo. To me this would be a place to hang out, maintain cars/minor repairs (install a lift) etc.

When we lived in Michigan my brother bought a Lotus Elan from a Secret Service agent who was in charge of building the Presidential limousines. He had a whole business plan for car condos with superb security and anonymity. His rationale was that a lot of guys didn't want their wives to know how many cars they really owned...

Yeah, interesting that you mention that Bill. One of the clients at the party the other night owns a auto warehousing operation here in town. Stores car for discerning gentlemen. I did not know that one of those existed!!!
