The article reads like it was written by an overprotective PTA mom.

Someone in the comments wrote it sounds like Fiat Chrysler wrote it -- good for publicity!

They may have a point! People who like "bad ass" cars like that they might be "banned"

The article is completely off base about why it's "banned" from NHRA racing.

The Tesla does 0-60 in 2.4 seconds and the press applauds.

The Demon does it in 2.3 == BAN IT!

    Hypocrisy at its worst.

I had a conversation about cars like this with the owner of a big powder coating business here in NJ. He's in his early 60's and is an avid car guy. It seems he bought one of the earlier less powerful models about 3 years ago because he's always wanted some wild like this. But he lost control of it out on the road and damaged some of the special body pieces and it took 6 months to get the parts. I guess there are actual downsides to this.

    Car looks insane....
Heard some insurance companies won't insure it.
I foresee a lot of "crashes"

918's have been running 2.3-2.4 seconds to 60 and well under 5 seconds to 100 for a few years now and no one complains. But I guess ppl just assume if you can afford one you can handle the speed which is asinine. Or you can at least afford a really good lawyer.

The interesting thing about that editorial is it was written to generate publicity and controversy. The owner/publisher Kieth Crain, published an editorial shortly thereafter in the sister publication Autoweek what a cool idea the Demon is.
Whatever it takes to get people talking about you, Automotive News nailed it. ;)
'Let's stir the pot so we get people talking about us'. Mission accomplished.

How many Dodge ads on the site. Could be an advertorial - an ad disguised as an editorial piece. I use to sell them in print, but they had to be clearly marked.

The problem is... this just ads fuel to the fire of those people who DO want to ban fast cars.

Its one more nail in the coffin to government mandated internal speed restrictions and automatic black box reporting to "officials" for unsafe driving.

I own a Hellcat now but will buy a Demon when they become available.

I stopped by a dealer today to see when they will get any.

Stopping production and sale of this car depresses me. Throttle control is done by the right
    foot.

All modern cars can go fast and kill you so nothing new here.

    just silly

    Yes of course.
I heard the same arguments in the late '60's.
Ban the fast cars and end the horsepower race. How'd that work out?
GM officially got out of racing, but no one told the skunkworks engineers.
