    I am looking at getting an SL, but the major attraction is that the car has an available factory warrenty to 100k miles. (That and I love its styling and power)

    But fcars are still my heart, and I was wondering, if a warrenty is available so I can reasonably drive my car everyday, without worry of having to forward the bill of a major collapse (ie the 50k trany, amoung others) I expect to put 80k+ miles.

    Anyone have any info on such? I will be putting 20k miles a year on this car and need input. A real bumper to bumper will be the best, I dont feel like having to pay for this switch broke, or a rattle here, etc...basicly like a factory warrenty would be (I dont like having too much headaches from daily drivers, thats what the other cars are for)

    I assume there are no issues with this car, as it is a modern Ferrari such as the AC is mediocre, the car sometimes doesnt want to start etc etc...

    Omar, check with a Ferrari dealer, but I'm pretty sure that you can get the FNA power train warranty on a 97. It is not bumper to bumper, and the timing belt service will probably need to be done. But it is a warranty, and the 456 is a Ferrari, whereas a MB is just an appliance.

    BTW, don't get the auto. I have have heard that it costs $50k to replace.

    I shopped around for an extended warranty for my 550 Maranello ....... not many companies offering this .... but did find "www.exoticwarranty.com" who writes multi year, unlimited mileage policies. Was quoted approx. $ 9k for a 4 year policy but they also offer 1, 2 and 3 years policies for less money ..... and it does seem to cover most things ..... Brake system, Suspension, Air Cond., Electrical systems including all modules, electric motors, displays, Engine, Transaxle, Fuel system, Steering system, alternator/starter, etc., Cooling system and Emissions. Even includes timing belts !!! but I'm sure only if they break .... in which case you'd be the second happiest person on earth (behind Walt Disney) having bought this policy. Not quite a Bumper to Bumper ... but if this company is for real ..... not a bad deal if something really bad were to happen. If you plan a lot of miles .... this may be the way to go.

    I have yet to decide if it's worth the cost for me ...... I generally do all my own maintenance and repairs and have never set foot in a Ferrari dealsership because if there's one thing I know about Ferrari ..... their dealers treat their best (and only) customers exactly the opposite of how they should..... they nail you every way they can ... Afterall, when it comes down to it ..... it's just a car and a service is a service .... but dealers treat their customers like defense companies treat our government ...... $ 3000 toilets ring any bells?

    This is my first Ferrari and I still don't know how bad things can get with broken parts ..... troubles. Would love to hear what others think about extended warranties ... and if I should consider purchasing one myself.

    Basically ... I'm giving my 550 three years to provide it's worth ..... Love this car to death .... it's been great car and very reliable so far ..... but if it starts bleeding me ..... this may be my last Ferrari .... if not ... I'll be a Ferrari owner until the day they take my licence away ... which, by the way, may not be too much longer since my 550 just can't seem to stay under 120mph up those those "pesky" on-ramps.... and late nights on empty freeways are even scarier !!!! Yes ... owning a Ferrari makes me feel young and stupid again! But then again ... stupidity is relative .... and IMO spending $ 6,000 - $ 8,000 at the dealership every couple years for relatively simple repairs and services is the "poster child" of stupidity, especially when every other high end car manufacturer charges a fraction for the same services and parts.

    They cover belts, but Ferrari states changes at 5 years minimum...I feel that this will lead to two things;

    1. If the belts are not done in 5 yr as per maintaince they can refuse honoring as per inproper care on your part?
    or
    2. You need to have them changed and as such as they 'need to be replaced' and thus they can be changed under warrenty.

    PS they want 35k for 10 years on a F512M :p

    Auraraptor ........ $ 35 k for 10 years ..... that's a lot of money. I've never been an extended warranty buyer .... not even for a washer and dryer. Logic states ... these companies know what they're doing and the odds are clearly stacked in their favor or they wouldn't be in business. That's why I have yet to decide on buying a policy for my Maranello ... which is the first car I've ever considered buying one for .... and only because of the high costs associated with F-car repairs and parts ... and there's always the unknowns regarding f-car reliability, etc. At this point ...... I'm very aware that prevention is the key .... and strongly adhear to service requirements ..... althought, I do feel Ferrari is way over the top on a lot of this stuff. I guess these "poor" dealers have to put their kids through college someway? At least at this point ..... they're not doing it on my money .... I say yank'em out of Harvard and let them all go to community college!!

    That's a good question you raised about the t-belts ....... who knows?
