I have had the 458 almost 6 months now and 6k miles and am by no means ready to sell as yet. I do however realise if I want to new version it is probably 5 years away which means I will need a stop gap car in the interim. So that leaves the special - which I can imagine what it will drive like, the new huracan, and the aventador. With the huracan we will see road tests and will obviously be compared back to back with 458. The aventador we won't, and I haven't managed to find one.

Could an aventador bridge to gap for a keen driver 2 or is it all show without the go ? Is it too big to really enjoy as a drivers car? Can it be used as a daily like the 458 ?

The aventador is a great car, drove it many times. It is definitely DD able but what would stop me from dd it would be the size. Do you live in the US? If you have the space for it then go for it ;)

Why do you need a stopgap? Get the power cube if you are worried about expensive repairs. You will lose less than switching to aventador. I found the interior cramped, the aventador huge and rear view visibility nonexistent. Never understood owning awd in year round sunny climates. YMMV.

Just don't get the '12 vents and you're golden. the '13s and up have a much smoother transmission, better dampening / compliant ride.

I live in London, do miles - the car is a daily, so after around 3 years it will make sense to move it on for something else.

That's not really the point of the discussion though - what I want to know is how they compare as a diving experience and what are they like to live with.

From the sounds of it too big to be manageable.

to me, the aventador looks really cool but the single clutch gearbox feels outdated and jerky after the DCT in 458. I would not recommend using it as a DD unless you want to exercise your arms while driving and you have no traffic problem in your local area

I drove an Aventador briefly in the city last year. It was very disappointing. Hard, bouncy ride, awful gearbox. And I'm a Lambo fan (owned Gallardos and LP640).

IMO The Speciale would be a better choice

    this...

compared to the silky smooth and refined 458, the lambo will feel positively crude...but very stout make no mistake.

I've ridden in an Aventador and agree about the firm ride and jerky, old-school auto-manual. Fantastic looks and sound, though. I bet the F12 is a lot more refined.

Biggest complaint I've heard about it is that it's ridiculously difficult to drive around town. Visibility is poor and its really wide.

The 458 is really easy to just putter around town. Put it in auto mode and it's a "kitty" cat.

I've heard the noise it makes is a bit lame compared to the 458. Of course this could be adjusted with a new exhaust.

When do you all think the new car will be out anyway? I have 4-5 yrs in my head for some reason ?
Maybe there is no reason to switch.

I'm expecting the 458 replacement to be revealed at Frankfurt in September 2015 with deliveries starting in the first half of 2016. There's no need for you to switch. :)

The ferrari is more refined. My 358 is a 22010 and my Aventador is a 2013. The exhaust sound on the big 12 cylinder Lambo is awesome. I do not agree with the posrter on the sound comparison between both cars. I personally like both but the big Lambo is better.

The Lambo transmission compared tp the 458 feels clunky. Now that I have driven the Aventador a few months you learn how to shift without that clunk feeling. The 458 is a much better transmission and it just works well no technique needed.

The 458 is a much easier car to get into than the Aventador. The big Lambo had those doors that go up. The only car I have that does that that I am aware of is the Mosler. Got to love those doors.

The only thing that surprised me about the Aventador is highway crusing. I assumed that is why this car was designed. To be honest it is not that good, not horrible just not great.

There is some truth in the poster negative post that visability is horrible with the Aventador. Not horrible but not a mustang or Ford Focus either. The Aventador has a back up camera and there is visability but limited. I find it mangeable and have no problem but is is a fair point.

The car is a big car but I never thought about is being wide, maybe so but not to the point is is hard to manage or drive anywhere. I do it without thinking about it. It goes in my garage easy. I am aware that my Mosler is wide, but that is okay, at least with me.

If pushed I would say " hey it is a supercar! if you want visability buy a Ford Focus" Then I would run like hell :)

Never driven one, but it does not at all seem like a car I'd want to daily in London. Way to big.

For me the Aventador was too big and too hard to see out of to comfortably drive it the way it was intended and in the way you would want to drive it. Maybe after owning one for a while you could get used to the size and lack of visibility, but for me the longgg dash, small windows and HUGE body were a major turn off.

According to top gear the Lambo is amazing. They gave the same report on the 458. I have not driven either of them but if money was not an issue i would own both!

The Aventador is a different driving experience than most cars. The all wheel drive coupled with 700hp is just mind blowing. I think the Aventador is more fun to drive than some of the high hp Ferraris I have driven. I have not driven the new 740hp Ferrari and have been contacted by my dealer. I may do that at some point and maybe I will like it better? I can say the big lambo stirs a crowd. I love the car for what it is.

Not all cars push every button. each car has a niche that is does very well with others cars doing something else differently and better. I think this is why people have car collections with so many totally oposite cars.

Jay Leno once said, " buy the car that you like, if it goes up in value, great. If it does not, you still have a car that you like. I think that is a great thought and one I have taken to heart.

As an owner of a 2014 Aventador, leead1’s posts capture the overall essence of the car. Perhaps I am accustomed to driving larger vehicles but, for me, size is not even a minor consideration…never even think about it. Comparing transmissions, I suppose I could be labeled an iconoclast but my strong preference is the Lambo ISO over the DCT; it is a sports car. I prefer the aggressiveness of the shifts of the Aventador relative to a Porsche Turbo S PDK which I owned. In fact, my dislike of the PDK was so intense the car was sold. It is just my opinion but the exhaust sound of the 12 cylinders with the factory sound (power) upgrade is perfect.

I just wish I knew the answer :)

I have owned 5 or so all wheel cars and I have seen them improve dramatically. At first they where not good driving cars in my view. The ones I have now feel like rear wheel drive cars. The only way to tell is under heavy acel the cars just go with minmum wheel spin.

There may be no need to make a single drive car. I am sure there is still a market for them so who knows.

Surly the dinosaur is too big and heavy to benefit from being 2wd. It's not like a 458.......or is it lol
