Usually nowadays it's the "farmer who doesn't know how to fly" act. Always hilarious, and I wonder if anyone in the crowd really thinks that it's not a staged act.

We had a different slant on it. We had everybody wondering if the air[lane would actually fly. We had so many pieces falling off of it when we were "trying to put it together" during the show that some in the crowd were astonished that it really did fly. Had a lot of fun 50 years ago.

One of the aircraft currently being used by one act of that type does lose an aileron in flight, but nothing else falls off.

Yes, I have seen the rather lame copy of the original act. I can't remember his name off hand but he flies an Interstate Cadet.

Back in the day, Grace Page did the "lady wannabe student pilot who takes off without her instructor" act. When she moved into her new digs at Sanford, our CAP squadron cleaned it out and painted it an non-institutional shade. The Navy had stored old batteries in the building. :)

We were each promised a flight with Grace, but it never worked out.

I remember seeing one such act at a small airport in Toughkenamon, PA, using a J-3 Cub. He almost had me believing that it wasn't part of the show!
