This weekend was the annual Burn Foundation Rally here in Arizona. The proceeds for the rally go to a very worthy cause and serve to help fund programs geared towards helping children who are burn victims. I have run this event three times. The first two times in my 911 Turbo S, but this year decided to try something different and figured it was time to take the big cat out to stretch its legs. I took my 89 TR up to FMS for some fresh fluids and a good check-over (it was due for its annual service anyway) and had a clear-bra installed on the front nose to get it ready for rally day on Saturday. There were about 40 cars on the event, mostly all new and representing the latest and greatest from all the brands (a lot of heavy artillery). I ran the TR very aggressively. It wasn't the fastest car there by a long shot and I was out-gunned on paper by most everything there, but I am TELLING you that the TR can hang with the best of them!! I ran that thing for 350 hard miles and managed to stay with the pack the entire time. No problem. We had a few stops along the way and each time other drivers came up to me and and said how much they loved the car and how impressed they were with how it ran. They all said they just loved to watch it move down the road. The TR was tight, fast, sounded awesome and when it began to rain, the A/C even worked well to cool things down and dehumidify. What a day!!! I have new found respect for my car. I mean I always knew it ran well and I do drive it, but I hadn't had the chance to thrash it about like this before. It's just so pure, so analog, so raw, and so connected. It's so damn hard core and it has personality and character like nothing made today. I'm so pumped-up over this run I want to go out in the garage right now, get in the car and do it again! Here's a few pics. I have a ton more that were taken by others I can post if anyone wants to see some action shots. I just wanted to share this with you guys. Best to everyone.

Of all those cars, the TR is the best looking. Look at how low it is!

Sounds like a pretty fast day - stay safe!

    Cheers,

I took my 89 Testarossa out this weekend. I didn't have as long of a drive but I put more miles than usual. I got back feeling the same way. I prefer these older manual transmission cars and that together with the lack of power steering make you feel like your part of the road. You don't even have to go to fast to feel like your flying. A good country road and RPMs over 4500 and I feel like Vettle lol.

I was left speechless looking to do it again. Thanks for your post.

I totally agree. Over 4500 RPM and the thing just sings! The car is totally comfortable in the upper rev band. I have had my car for about a year plus and I usually drive it very conservatively always being afraid of something bad happening. I figured that as long as I took it very easy on shifting and kept drive-line shock to a minimum that the car could be driven hard. I stand by this. The TR never gets old, never gets boring. Just sitting there parked, it gets my heart racing, but to drive it is a real treat. What a beast!
