I've never been a big fan of electric cars but this is the rare exception. A new Co called Tesla hired a bunch of Lotus engineers and used batteries from PCs to create a very light, attractive, & quick electric sportscar. There is an article in WIRED mag where they compare it to a Porsche CGT, silly but the acceleration 0-60 is better than the CGT, of course the article says the Tesla does 130 max & Never mentions the CGT is almost 100 mph faster http://www.autoblog.com/2006/07/20/tesla-roadster-unveiling-in-santa-monica/ Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
It's cool...but it still is so far from practical! let's see.... 250 miles on a charge, and 3 hours to recharge? Sucks if you want to drive 500 miles....Plus there's the problem of recharging stations. 100k for a slightly faster Lotus Elise...somehow the gas savings there doesn't add up. You'd have to drive 458,000 miles to make up for it. Am I missing something?
Pretty impressive if you ask me. If you have never driven an electric car, it may not sound as cool, but driving something fast and silent is very fun and offers a whole other sense of speed. I am going to find out more about this one, thanks William.
