Combining the words "Ayrton Senna" and "Principles" in the same sentence would seem an oxymoron.

    Must be a short book.

Thanks for your useless remark. The exact length of the book is stated in my original post; 208 pages.

Now, can anyone actually address the question of this thread?

    Thanks.

    Thanks alot Anthony.

When buying used on Amazon, how can you be sure of the condition of the book you're purchasing? The ratings are pretty generalised and subjective, and there are no pictures showing the exact example you are buying.

Now I'm confused!! According to this link you can either by the book new for £15.99 or a used one for anywhere between £49.99 and £157.49! Why would someone be willing to pay more for a used copy?!

Do you want me to Order the book new for £15.99 and see what happens?

I've just phoned my mate who owns an F1 Shop. He doesn't have the book in the shop, but he has had it in the past. He said he'd have a dig around at home to see if he can find a copy. I might be able to get a good price! :)

Wow, that's interesting. Maybe's it's been rereleased? Who knows. I couldn't find it new on Amazon USA, just used copies starting at USD $60 (34 pounds, AUD $83).

16 pounds (AUD $40, USD $27) is a reasonable price to pay for a new paperback, considering the asking prices of used copies!

Let's wait thought till we hear back from your friend. I'll ring around some bookstores tomorrow to see if they can get it, and if not, then you can order it new (if possible) through Amazon. :)

Sounds like a plan. I'll ring my friend tonight. The advantage of getting it from him is that he'll give me a discount as I'm a good customer and I've done some favours for him in the past!

Upon looking again at that Amazon link to buy the book new, I noticed that the one they're selling is the hardcover version. They also say "this hard to find title." As it's listed as new, I guess the book is back in print, and perhaps for a limited amount of time.

Because it's hardcover and not paperback, that makes the 16 pounds all the better value. Certainly better than paying several times that for a used paperback version!!!

    :)

Kind of like using the words "Tom Kristensen" and "Formula 1" in the same sentence would seem an oxymoron.

Sorry Barton but I am not going to let you take a jab at my hero without a rebuttle.

I think you are still steamed that Tom never had what it took to get into F1.

Well one doesnt need to be only in F1 to be recognized as a true great - I mean some F1 drivers who were average or pretty good became superstars in other arenas: E.g. Derek Bell, Jackie Ickx

Just some friendly jabbing. There are plenty of great drivers who never made it to F1.

Stuck and Bell are two other people who never got proper equipment and moved on to greener pastures.

Ickx was average in F1 because he drove average cars. The Ferrari he drove in F1 in 71 (?) was terrible yet he challenged at the front.

Some drivers simply choose a different path than open wheel cars. In Kristensen's case he spent way too much time in Formula Nippon (3 or 4 seasons) and Japan in general. Most of the people from Europe who did Formula Nippon did so for one or two season's at most and won the title. With the exception of Firman, DelaRosa and Schumcher (Ralph), won the title and moved on or if they didn't win the title (Irvine) they didn't stick around.

No doubt Tom is a world class driver and one of the best in sports cars thought I put less emphasis on his LeMans wins because of the lack of competition there compared to when Ickx drove there.

The numbers favor Tom but the competition favors Ickx.

LeMans is now-a-days nothing more than a marketing excercise for the VW/Audi/Bentley Group.

    Regards,

    Jon

I've got the book, and it's a pretty good read. I wouldn't overpay to get a new copy since it isn't coffee-table material.

Now I'm glad I bought my copy 10 years ago.

    I don't see it on Motorbooks.com.

I've ordered a new hardcover copy for 16 pounds from Amazon.co.uk.

Unfortunately they say it won't be 'dispatched' for 4 - 6 weeks, with an ETA mid November at the earliest!
