All of a sudden I am getting tickets for no front plate. My last Gallardo and Ferrari I had for 1 & 4 years respectively with NO tickets for not having a front plate......

My first option was to register the car at my house in Florida but after looking into that option the insurance is twice as much as New York!!! Surprised me as well....

My next option would be to install the plate on some dorky bracket that sticks out like a billboard...... NOT AN OPTION!

Finally, I do recall seeing a hideaway bracket on a Vette sometime ago I think on this site or somewhere... It was motorized and flipped up... The plate was flat under the front end of the vehicle and slid out and up for display....

Does anyone have the link for this or a place where it can be bought/installed?

I am tired of getting harassed... and no it's not as if I am getting pulled over for speeding and then they are pointing out my plate.... it's lately the safety checkpoints for seatbelts and inspection stickers they are checking for at highway exits.... thats when they are getting me.....and all the PBA cards in the world are not helping lately - I think it's because everyone and their mother has one these days!

    Thanks for helping out.....

    Seth

There is only one problem, every time you hit the front of the car and you know we all do, that thing will start braking.

I just take the tickets. Go on ebay buy some PBA cards they usually get you through things like that. Front plates are so ugly I rather pay $500 a year not to have one if it comes down to that.

Another option, call your front plate in stolen. It should get you by for a few months before that excuse wears off.

If your front plate "falls off" you have 24 hours to put it back on. Whenever I get stopped for it I just say I had a new bumper put on that morning and have to pick up a new bracket at the dealer. I haven't gotten a ticket for it yet.

I generally get 1 - 2 tickets a year, but I avoid obvious spots like the Midtown tunnel whee they generally bust your chops. When I do take the tunnels and bridges, I generally tailgate up to the toll, so there's no way they can see the front of my car :D

    Nabbs,
Thanks for posting those links up. The project looks really cool, but even if ww did use it, Joey is right, you would smack it up in no time on ramps and undulations in the roads, and it would rust off your car in no time with exposed steel hinges, springs and such. Very cool idea though.

agreed 100% Too much effort, at that point I would just find a way to attach the damn thing.

I have to say that I am definately worried everytime I drive the Z in Manhattan. On the way to the Toys for Tots thing I had a cop in the little enclosed vespa things pull me over (he had his lights and sirens on!) and give me a no front plate ticket. Not to mention that the NYPD and the Transit Cops have checkpoints at bridges and entrances onto the highway, where they just look for expired registrations, no inspection, and no front plate.

Step 1: Tear up the plate a bit. Run it over. Scratch it on concrete.

Step 2: Stick it behind the passenger seat.

Step 3: Pull it out, stick it in the window when needed...

"Why is the plate in the window? NY vehicl code specifies that the plate must be mounted outside the vehicle"

"I just had the bumper repaired after a slight accident. I'm waiting for the bracket to get shipped over. In the mean time, I stuck the plate in the window. I didn't think it was that big of a deal. I'm sorry to cause an inconvenience."

    Don't be ****** and you'll be fine.

Just keep a box of Donuts on the dash, and you'll be fine. A "help yourself" arrow never hurts, either.

    Yah, yah, yah ;)

Hey which is worse: trimming a plate and then afixing it to your car and risking getting tagged for an altered plate, or not running a plate? I was debating trimming some of the blue boarded on the top and bottom and then ziptying it onto the grill (it won't fit unless I cut some of it off). Thoughts?

here's the thread I did about the motorised plate, I think this would take a pro to install/fabricate. The whole trick it to make the plate come up a 90 deg angle. Maybe you can e-mail the guy, Im sure he will help you out

Everytime I get stopped and hand him the card he asks where I got it. When I say "My uncle gave it to me as a gift and told me that it might help for slight infractions" he usually lets me off (Gotta sounds proper, heh). Also since I have the same last name as him since my uncle is my dad's brother he realizes that it's not just an ebay special. If the last name of the person on the card is different then yours then your story better be believable, because you can say anybody is your uncle. How does the cop know who married your aunt? haha

One reason you guys keep getting hassled is because of the types of cars you guys drive. They attract alot of attention. A car like mine or my friends car noone ever notices...which is also kind of a bad thing, having an invisible car. But what ever at least I don't get speeding tickets...yet

So when they pull you over and ask who you got it from, who do you tend to say if you bought them on eBay?
