Back in business

Completed my winter projects today and took the car for a drive, felt great.

Projects:
Replaced all rubber fuel lines and damaged SS fuel lines, also installed new fuel pump, accumulator and filter
Replaced gearbox gasket and installed Stat-O-Seals to stop gear oil from leaking all over the place
Replaced gear oil
Oil change
Flushed brakes with new brake fluid.

Nice to be done and driving the car again.

You just made me feel twice as guilty for not having moved mine since Thanksgiving. I'm looking outside and see dry streets, but I still see puddles at the curbsides. I don't dare taking the car out as long as there is a tiny bit of water left.

Anyway, kudos to you, the 328 and your projects.

 

Well, what can I say?

The puddles were gone and it was time to get back in the saddle as well. After the expected jump start, everything went smoothly and even the clock didn't need to be set again.

 

Now, the only thing left before hitting the road is to raise your ride height about 10 inches!

 

NLSD is still very good. Occasional bumps, but no potholes.

BTW: I still need to lower the front by a couple of inches: Ever since I removed the original bumper, the front went up.

 

Out again today for a drive.

It was nice to have these projects completed, although I am still double checking there are no fuel leaks, but so far so good. Also nice to stop the gear oil from leaking out all around the gasket and onto the floor.

The fuel line replacement was the most difficult, needed to be a contortionist to get all of the old dried lines out.

 

Good job Gerry! You are much farther along than I am. Here is my list:

Change oil - done
New engine cover struts - done
New Trunk seal - received new seal, replacement will be quick, so no need to kill the job.
Replace thermostat - waiting to receive new one
Fuel hoses - waiting to receive them (purchased in November - long story..)
Silly cooling fans are coming on again when they shouldn't. Electrical gremlin I think.

 

I have some extra bits of hose, send me a note or give me a call if you are interested. I ended up using the OEM hoses for the cross over pipe, found the wire reinforced hose too stiff.

 

Thanks for the offer Gerry. I was told last week that the hoses finally came in, so should have them soon. However, I have been hearing that kind of story for several months now. In any event, I want to do all the hoses at one time, so I don't need to drain the gas tank more than once. Also, the current hoses are in okay shape so no immediate need to change them. I thought it would be a good winter job. Little did I know it would take all winter to get the hoses.

 

Been there, done that! While this is not a complicated project, it is a PIA. I needed to carefull cut almost all of the lines to remove them from the nipples. Happy to share my expereinces when you are ready.

 

Boy--tomorrow is looking to be the kind of day where I'll really miss the 'ol sled. But I know she's in loving hands

 

I think mine is suffering from exactly that at the moment. Started last fall.

 

Could this be a project for our spring Tech. Session?

 

Well, let's put it this way: It will get resolved at Ed's shop. Either as part of the Tech Session or not.

Dave is ultimately in charge of what we'll go through and somehow I think he had a different idea.

 

The Boxer got 4 new rear Koni's (fronts last year), and all 8 front & rear brake hoses. Fabricated a nice underdash mount for a 1.4 Lb chrome Halotron Fire Extinguisher which mounts with one SS clamp under the A/C duct.
Quick to remove, simple, out of the way, and no holes in the interior.

What type of projects would you guys want to do for this Spring's Tech Session that can be done in a few hours?

Can anything be done in a few hours on a Ferrari?

Well, I think I will have a thermostat that can wait to be put in. That means the radiator will need to be partially drained and refilled. We could perform the thermostat replacement and review/perform the coolant system bleed procedure.

 

Dave might be showing you guys pics of his fire extinguisher, but what he really wants you to notice is the original Pioneer radio/cassette player, which has a horsey on it. That thing is worth more than the rest of the interior combined.

 

Mind if any non-owners join a tech session? I'd love to get up close and personal with them. Being 26 (27 in June) with one kid and another on the way, with a lot of debt, I know I'm LONG way off from owning a car like these

 

Flushing my brakes was easier than I expected, would be happy to do it again as a demo. Might also be able to get my business partner Ron to help me end my front brake squeak.

Starting a project on my 328 this weekend. I'll start replacing fuel hoses. Since Gerry coached me on what parts need to be removed to get at the hoses, my learning curve is a bit shorter so I hope to get this completed in the next few weeks. Like Gerry said, it really looks like a PIA, unless one is a contortionist.

Already replaced the thermostat and found the one in the car to open way early compared to the new one. So I hope to have some heat in the car soon after changing the fuel hoses.

 

'Horsey', I don't see no horsey! Of course, at this point, I'm almost totally blind.

Surgery next month; sure hope it works.
