Back of 599 seat - damage

Hi

On a recent trip to Europe we were pushed for trunk space so I ended up putting a bag behind my seat. 6 hours later I took the bag out only to discover, to my horror that the buckle on the bag had "chaffed / rubbed" against the finish on the seat back, causing damage, which I need to address. The finish on the back panel is like a "soft skin" almost like a soft neoprene you'd find on a wet suit!!

It's a long shot but has anyone here know what the finish is, better still had cause to repair it?

The material is a soft touch coating like on the switches. It will eventually get sticky too. Best advice is have the seat removed sticky coating removed and the surface refinished as needed. Been there done that. Nasty but not a complex task.

 

Thanks for that. I was wondering if the coating was the same as the switches. Maybe, not a big job in the US but I am in the UK. Do you know who in the US could do the work?

 

We've not done seat backs as of yet but I believe a dealer is sending us a set soon. Yep - it's the same soft touch coating that fails on other interior switches and trim. As much as we'd be happy to help you, the shipping cost would be insane. My best advise would be to remove them, strip them bare and then just use any mat / flat black you can find. Given it's just the seat backs, they won't be seem much and you just want to make them non-sticky.

Roger - I'll try and remember to scan the WSM to see.

 

I suggest Wurth Satin Black. It does not have the same OEM texture, but looks very very close to original.

 

I think I miss understood the post.... Use 99% rubbing alcohol to remove the sticky soft touch. Disassemble the seat first.
