Well after many years of doing without... I pulled the trigger on a 2002 Maser GT Coupe - with a 6 speed and 12K miles. Everything I have read on the car has been positive by nature. So, I see this Black/Black 2002 Coupe on Ron Tonkins website, and a few e-mails, a couple phone calls, and a cashiers check later..... I expect delivery sometime next week. Any inputs on the GT coupe would be appreciated, and anyone have any past (good or bad) experiences with RT. I have to say that dealing with them has been quite pleasurable and they are very professional.
Nice! Post some photos when you can. I'm in Socal as well and have a 308 GT4. Do you ever go to Crystal cove? Dom
Congrats! The car is a blast! Faster than my TR and a lot more comfortable. No major problems- tranny works fine once it warms up. See if the clutch was uprated to the dual tang model- the single tang had some problems ( the dealer will know what this is all about). I've had mine 2 years- PM if you have any specific concerns!
The Cambriocorso (F1) paddle shifter cars. There weren't any problems with the standard 6 speed cars.
No problems with my CC when I had it. The update made the car extremely timid. The 02 is my favorite year especially with an untouched transmission just because the shifting is so hard and raw.
Congrats on an awsome car. Not too many issues with this car esp. the GT. I agree with NA Performance. The 2002 C.C. cars were a lot more raw in terms of their software setup. Unfortunately too many not so knowledgeable "automobile critics" complained of its harsh shifting so Maserati had to soften the shifting in subsequent years. My only issue with the 6-speed was the clunky 1st to 2nd gear changes. Personally I'd throw on a short shifter kit and you'd have a dream of a ride.
Thanks for that idea. I'll drive it for awhile and if the 1-2 shifing really bothers me I'll go the short shifter route. But I don't believe shifting can be any worse than my Ferrari. We'll see.
I've had 3 Ferrari's (2-5spds, 1-6 spd) and a 2002 GT Spyder and the Maser 6sp will outshift an Fcar from 1st to 2nd all day long. I put RedLine in all of them and would recommend it highly.
Congrats my friend, Mazzers are true gentlemen cars. All you need is a Tubi to make it sound heavenly and let the Porsche guys envy the music and maybe a drop, makes it look so much hotter.Being the 6spd, it should be very reliable, most problems are related to the CC or so it seems.
Received the car a couple days ago. Drove it around 100 miles yesterday, just running errands, and getting it titled and registered. Realize what you mean by the clunky 1-2 shift. The characteristics are similar to driving my 308 GT4 so I'm use to the quirky shifing, and actually, I kind of like it . . . . . but then, my sick mind also likes the GT4. I take a better pics this Saturday, and post in a couple days.
congrats once again. As someone above said throw on an aftermarket exhaust and lower it an inch or two and you have a true dream machine. BTW, I threw on a Mille Miglia exhaust and exchanged the middle resonators with aluminum straight pipes..... and the end result was reminiscent of Beethoven's 5th. http://media.putfile.com/Exhaust93
Here is the Maserati at Eugenio's Ferrari Service getting checked out - so it's ready to go, and enjoy. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great sound! But the road is far too short.....! C`m on over and throw your car around the old Nuerburgring! Much better than on a quarter-mile. Ciao! Walter
That is a great sounding car although I wonder how much of the sound is due to getting rid of the resonators.
