Purchased a WiFi back-up camera from ebay which displays an image on your mobile via an app. Tapped the power from the license plate light and I actually replaced the camera with something I had laying around w/ an metal housing.

I originally had the camera mounted on the exterior rear bumper however it gave no reference point on how closer the rear bumper was getting to an object. Not wanting to drill/cut anything on the car I was able to secure the camera behind the mesh and mounted it via the OEM bolt that holds the mesh to the carbon trim.

The resolution looks poor in the photo but it's actually pretty clear on the phone. Now I can finally not park 4 feet away from the wall :)

Cool. I'd like to do something like this too. I'm not very good with electronics and wiring though. Could you post pic of how you electrically connected the camera to the license plate wires? Also, did you add a fuse to the circuit? Finally, what brand camera did you go with?

Thanks for sharing. Can you post or message me the seller or auction link?
What is the time delay until the image appears?

    Very nice.

The new Clarion/Ferrari 430 nav upgrade kit also incorporates a backup camera fitted into the rear number plate light, the nav screen automatically deploys when reverse is selected - yet to see it working but sounds interesting although a lot more expensive!

Search for Ebay item #281226303168, it actually comes w/ the camera i used.

When you remove the license plate lighting via the 2 phillip screws there are only 2 wires, tap directly into that.

It boots up in about 3 seconds and the view is on the entire time as long as the parking/head lights are on.

As for the Clarion/Ferrari 430 nav upgrade, I don't mind the cost but I can't stand a flip up screen.

I would also like to see this. I am concerned as to how well the camera and the transmitter deal with the high temperatures of the engine compartment and I'm wondering where you mounted both of those components.

I'll take a photo the next time I head into the garage, I placed the wifi unit itself in the cavity where the license plate light is so little heat in that area. The camera does get a bit hot, I was thinking of purchasing some kind of insulated wrap but so far it hasn't affected performance.
