Need some help here. The rear bank of the car has been backfiring when I remove foot from gas. Plugs are pretty well sooted up when I check. Did a compression test, rear back is 175, 170, 175, 175 Leak down test 13% 23% 11% 14% Checked the cam timing, it is appx 1/16" off the mark. Pulled the rear distrib, found valve gap really small, readjusted to .013 Reinsert and timed it exactly for rear number one at 3ATDC. Put it all back together fired her up. Carb cleaner off so I could see. Idles nicely, when giving gas starts back firing . Noticed the emissions vapor hose that goes into the intake manifold was blown apart on the tranny side rear carb. This is the one that backfires the most. Thought maybe this was making it lean and causing backfire, Replaced hose and still backfires up the carb throat. OK, what do I attack now. Please give me soon direction. This is driving me nuts. thanks cal
Maybe a blocked idle jet. Pull the idle (slow run Jet) blow through then try again . There are 2 for each carb. Also note their size . With the air cleaner off - they are the brass screws on either side of the carb at the top.
