Just in case, I decided to exercise the backup releases on the various hoods and such. I found one for the trunk, the engine compartment, and the fuel filler door as described in the owners manual. However, there doesn't appear to be one for the front bonnet. And the owners manual doesn't show one. Am I missing something? And if not, what is the alternative method for opening the front should the release cable break? (Other than a big hammer and saw).

    Thanks for you help

They do not have one for the front trunk, I know not why! I have added one to mine by simply adding another cable and I attached it to the existing bonnet release bracket.

Great idea. I'll proceed with adding a backup to mine. That last thing I need is having that cable break and then begin drilling holes.

Can you take a photo when done, John?

I know He extra backup cable in the fuel filler cavity, but will have to look for the others you mentioned.

    Thanks,

The pictures really help. I have some minor maintenance to do this summer and I'll throw that backup cable in.

Well, I guess I misspoke, or typed in this case. When I was running through the options of releasing the various latches I realized that the fuel cap didn't have a backup. However, when I looked at it I recognized that it would be easy to open in the event of a cable break. I took a hack saw blade and notched it. Then sliding in between the cap and buttress the latch was easily captured, a slight pull and the cap was released. You have to grab the hook as close to the end as possible. Also, I attached some thin tape on the hack saw blade to minimize any potential damage to the paint. Attached are a few pics that may help.
Sorry for the error on my part.

The car was mounted on a rotating feature during assembly of the chassis. Much easier to gain access when you can turn the 360 degrees around the centre. Had to put it on the ground for engine installation.

Thank you, its a very interesting viewing angle indeed.

On the original topic I will install this back up front bonnet release on the boss's car, and check other back up cable releases. It must be a terrible feeling snapping one of those cables and we are seeing evidence of fraying cable on the front release !!! Not very frayed yet but definitely some broken strands.

Did you have to drill any access hole or just find a way through the barrier wall?

Second question. Did you do plain cable because you will only use in emergency so no need for cable with housing (don't need soft pull because hopfully never pulling or maybe only once pulling on the back up) ? And easier install?

    Thx.

I used a cable without a housing sleeve. There is no need for the sleeve, it will only be in the way and causing more friction. Did not have to drill extra hole in the fire wall either - just used the existing hole for the speeder cable.
