Are there any tips/tricks for adjusting the position of the little switch that activates the backing-up lights? Car has to pass it's annual safety inspection and that switch isn't engaging when the shift lever is in reverse. The lights come on when I press the switch by hand, so I know that's the only reason I have no backing-up lights.

For that matter, I'd be happy with some tips/tricks for a search string that will find a useful thread in the archives - I did try searching before asking. :)

Archives are here http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/256120/256120.html?1141700625 but I'm not sure that's what you want, and it doesn't work well most of the time for some odd reason.

Searches - the most important thing is eliminating what you don't want - this is done either by choosing 'advanced search' and selecting the 308/328 forum OR technical forum, then entering your 2 most important search words. Or instead of using the 'Search' button on the upper left, use the 'Search this forum' button on the upper right. Of course you must be in either 308/328 or technical forum to do this.

The search function doesn't work like google or bing. Think of 2 or 3 of the most descriptive 6-12 letter words. Example 'reverse switch adjust' produced only these 2 threads:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=311609
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=297557

Doing a general search for the same 3 words produced 9 threads about other model cars and can cause you to sift through 200 threads (and give up).

I just went thru that at my inspection. The preset depth of the switch build up with time an are of what I call non-contact. Simply removing the clock, temp gauge panel will give you access to the switch. Simply unplug the two leads, Unscrew the switch and take it out. Use good contact cleaner and spray it down the shaft operating the switch over and over and rotating the plunger. If you attach a continuity meter across the terminals you will find the spot of non-contact and eventually it goes away. Then replace the switch and maybe have it extend in a little further into the shifter housing. Retighten the nut, attach leads and done.
