So last weekend I had to pull the car out of the garage to switch some cars around and as I backed it out I rubbed the right bumper side against the door frame of the garage. The way the hoist is positioned it leaves little room for error and its always been a close call but this time it was too close. No big deal I wanted to repaint the bumpers anyway since the front one is faded a bit and the freshly repainted rear one got a scratch shortly after re-installing it.

The big problem came when I pulled the car back in and found I was too close to the door frame again but this time the rear wheels were on packed snow and ice. The car shifted sideways and the right mirror gave its life so that the door skin wouldnt suffer a similar fate thank god! So, I need a new right mirror if I cant fix the one thats there. I think I can drill and tap the small mounting nub that broke off and run a small fastener through the now open hole in the broken base plate to resecure the mirror mount. The rest of the mirror is fine, just the white metal/aluminum base plate is damaged. (anyone have damaged mirror with a good base for sale?) Looks easy to do but for now it will hang sadly from the side of the door until warmer weather returns.

I can imagine what went through your mind as you felt the car shift and then heard the sound of the mirror cracking off.... Sorry to see the result, man.

    Good day Paul,

I am sorry to hear about your mishap!

Since Ferrari usually uses after-market mirrors (on my BB they are made by Vitaloni and the model is Californian), if you let me know the mirror manufacturer (and hopefully model) I will keep a look out for one in my travels.

    Cheers,

    Sam

    Paul,

I'm very sorry to hear about your mirror breaking off.

Here's a product that can weld together the "pot metal" that your mirror strut is made of.

A friend's Lambo Jalpa had a broken mirror too and he was able to repair it using this stuff.

Here's the web site and click on the Lambo NW Club newsletter to read about the Jalpa mirror repair.

    Hope this info helps!

Thanks for the help, I was considering aproduct called JB Weld as well whcih works well on repairing holes in metal. The strangest thing was I didnt get mad. I guess if I kinked the door skin that would have been a different story. Ill look into the muggy weld as well.

Not sure on the brand of mirror Sam, the 308 has the vitaloni mirrors but these are different. Ill check them out.

Ugghhh! :( I feel badly for you and the Boxer both!! Luckily bumper cover and mirror are relatively easily repaired/replaced - good as new in no time!

Yes it will be a distant memory soon and not too tough to fix. I was surprised by how easily it just snapped off. Guess its a good thing since the skin would kink if the mirror was too strong.

I agree, better it broke the way it did. If not, the door skin coming apart and the mirror intact would be a royal piss off.
