Gas Monkey Garage F40 up for auction soon: https://appletowing.hibid.com/catalog/156273/u-s--marshals--featured--online-auction-ending-2-11-2019/
Hello, maybe since its at a government auction it might sell reasonable to leave enough money to fix correctly. One black is hidious and those headlights are even worse. Make sure the frame has been properly corrected. Gas Monkey tried, but they were backyard butchers on the frame job so suppossly they had some experts do that frame repair, not sure. Plus if the tub came away from the tubes in back to make sure that the correct ureathane glue was used and you can see that from inside should be a green color that all F40s have that sweege out. Or just take it to Bill Evendon at Maranello Motorworks in Denver, o.
Richard Rawlings says he will be bidding “aggressively” on that car. He has a net worth of 15M in 2018 according to the web. https://gasmonkeygarage.com/gas-monkeys-ferrari-f40-seeking-new-life/
It sold to Reggie Jackson for $742k in 2014. I presume the condition is not much different than when he sold it. I agree that Richard and Company are always taking way too many short cuts and seemed to be more interested in selling a car than getting it right. My guess is the car will go around $750k with its history. If Richard wins it.....he will use it for a show and flip it.
Rawlings is a blowhard with lot's of TV talk so we'll see what actually happens with his "bidding aggressively". And white it sold to Jackson for 742k (nobody knows the actual details of that transaction), word is he resold it at a $300k loss shortly thereafter. If someone is crazy enough to pay $750k for that car I guess it will be a new low-water mark for the F40, all decent cars should trade in the low millions and excellent cars closer to $2m.
My level of experience working on an F-car is I sweated bullets putting the battery tender on my F430. There was an episode of Gas Monkey where they fixed/refurbished a Ferrari; don't recollect which model. . The way they went about addressing problems, made me wonder who on earth would want to own any Ferrari these guys worked. on.
Suggest you stay in contact with insurers. After all, the Roland Linder "LM" project car was originally sourced from an insurance auction: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow. Already $503k. Even if you can afford that much for such a mutt, you're still off buying a better car. Matt
If I buy it at the current bid or higher, I think I would have to commit to owning it till dead. that guy who was buried in an F40!
The car needs a full restoration down to the frame. Rawlings is a self obsessed hillbilly he should stick to what he knows.
Wow, some serious haters here on the Gas Monkey F40. I thought the car came out pretty cool myself except for the weird led headlights, which RJ promptly replaced. They had a reputable shop do the heavy lifting on the repairs. Reggie does not buy junk, so I’d assume the car is decent.
Agreed. Doesn't look THAT bad. Replace the headlights and address what needs to be addressed and drive it! Classiche or concours car...obviously not. F40 you can beat on...yes!
Bidding is at 627K w 2n a half hours to go. Then “soft close” We officially passed the rational scope of this car’s value. Maybe Rawlings is still bidding and thinks he can recoup cost with another tv show circus. Or Mr Pocket Book is planning on race track fun. Good luck Boys! We are finding new Game
... and sold for 760k USD. I think it is a good track toy, the value will not fall, because it has an impure history. Good deal.
Definitely, and 9k miles is way too low for a car like that. Somebody needs to actually start driving that thing, might as well! That car should have at least 25k on it
And what are your credentials to know that he didn't do the right things to the car? How many F40's have you worked on? You are aware that the car had spend a lot of time with Ferrari Mechanics to get it right?
I'm not doubting its mechanical restoration...but if I'm not mistaken, they were custom fabricating some body parts they didn't want to shell out to replace with factory parts. I recall headlights being one of them. It's a resto-mod I guess. Strike price reflects that I suppose...but cutting corners doesn't bode well for whatever else they touched.
