I can't say what F1 will be like to visit now. I can say that the V10s where ****ing awesome. Never seen an F1 crash in real life, but the volume of these cars you can feel it in your chest. Your adrenaline rises a thousand fold the first time you hear one approaching, pass you and accelerate away again. I'll never forget that feeling.

I've got a feeling that people going to races now will not have that feeling of an engine with presumably so much force that it makes your chest vibrate. The speed will be astonishing still, but the physical (and audio) effect will be much less. In my head I keep comparing it to seeing the biggest music festival I've been to and the new F1 is like going to your local pub playing the same music but on their own audio :(.

Even the V8's where awesome...the sound raped your ears but it was worth it. I've had the pleasure of seeing a '94 or 95 Ferrari F1 V12 too...the sound is literally music to the ears.

Yes it was...but you can still get them raped if you go to certain concerts.....A siouxie & the banshees one where i stood just in front of the stage comes to mind....

I made it a point to take my middle nephew to an Indy car race when he was young and impressionable. More than anything else it's the noise he remembers.

The ultimate in team sports, maybe?

Mclaren got caught out badly by their weather forecasting last week - Cost JB many points.

Suggesting these guys are 'clever monkeys' is ridiculous IMO.

Huh? Qualy is one of the few things they've actually got right IMO. Don't know if you recall the bad old days of the track being empty for the first 1/2 of qualy not that many years back.

As for testing, the teams themselves decided to outlaw it. The FIA simply enforces what they wanted. We can blame the FIA for many things, but not that one.

That's the series where there's three different rule sets depending on who you are, right? Special rules apply to Ducati! What a load of bollocks!

I know, Ferrari is not doing very well right now, so let's allow them to run a bigger engine than everyone else!

Mercedes is too quick? Rather than 100kg of fuel, let's give them just 90! That'll show 'em!

F1, for all it's faults, has the most level playing field of them all IMO.
    Cheers,
    Ian

F1, like the Hotel Ritz, is open to both the rich and the poor.

Can not imagine the teams going for this. Better to give the back marker teams some sort of boost since they can not afford to play in wind tunnels as often as MB, Ferrari, RB, McLaren, and even Williams.

I REALLY, REALLY, hope you're right! I'm hoping it's just another example of Bernie's impish sense of humor.... I'm struggling to believe he's serious.

A fairer distribution of prize money would go a long way to help, but are the big guys ever going to vote for that! :(

Closest I would go is Bas' idea that you're allowed more testing the further back you finish. You could (possibly) then sell some of those testing miles to the big guys for big money..... It's still messing with the playing field, but could help everyone out.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Just be very careful exiting the tunnel.

Actually, I really like this idea, minus selling the test time for cash. If a Marussia or Caterham were allowed additional testing time to try and catch up, that night very well make them more competitive faster at a lower total cost. Yes. I like this idea.

I like that idea also. Selling testing miles would also be fine with the caveat that the teams spend the money on improvement and not as a dividend for shareholders for example

    Absolutely!

Can't afford it? There's plenty of other places to stay.

Some of them will even help you out if you suck too bad..... Ducati in MotoGP, the BOP in sports cars spring to mind.

Kinda like food stamps I guess.
    :)

    Cheers,
    Ian

Ian, Quali can be improved if we went back to the free for all 60 min session. But, have a cutoff time, ie. if any cars don't set a time every 10 mins or 15 mins then they can't go out again for the remaining of the session. That way, the track will be filled up all the time, and the fans get to see the cars always :)
