My son used my wifes Jag last Monday to get a battery for his car and he had a bad wreck. They said he rolled it three times but we dont no what happened. He was in ICU for five days but now he has is own room and he is doing better. He could still be in the hospital for two more weeks.
But here are some pics of the jag

Yes he is very lucky to be alive. He didnt have his seat belt on and he got thrown from the car. Dont no if that was a bad thing or not. Because it looked like a tree went threw the sun roof after he was ejected. But everything is looking very good for him the Doc. had him standing up today. So that makes me fell very good

That tells you one thing, take his car away. If he can't put a seat belt on he should not be driving. In this case it saved his life, but 99.9% of the time it will kill you. He was in the 0.1%, he got off lucky.

I agree. It is very lucky that your son survived this crash, but honestly from the looks of the car, he might have been driving very irresponsibly. Especially with someone else's car.

Well we really dont no what happened except he locked up the brakes and the road was alittle wet. But there are alot of deer here in Kansas and it was almost midnight. And Im not mad at him because he wasnt wearning his seat belt because I believe its 50/50 if they help or not and I no its the law. But I think you should have to wear a helmet on a cycle at all times but you dont here in Kansas. Just this year in this area 5 people have died do to head injurys on cycles. But what Im mad about is I told his mom do not let him ever drive your car. And now she knows why. He is 18 year old boy and there brains dont work real well I was 18 once so I know.

Even though things seem real bad right now, your glass is actually more than half full.

Imagine if your son's injuries were much more severe and permanent, imagine if he had a friend or girlfriend with him at the time of the accident with even more severe injuries, imagine if he hit another car and other people were severely injured or killed, etc.

Any car can be replaced. Any accident where everyone involved fully recovers is, in a way, a blessing.

Best wishes to your son and you.

I agree about counting your blessings, and wish your son a speedy recovery. I also wouldn't get down too much on his mother (who may no longer be your wife, given your phrasing); i'm sure she is equally upset and perhaps feeling a bit guilty as well.
Let it go, and work for his fast and complete recovery.
    Best to you and yours,

(Someone who was also pretty lucky at that age).

I have an X Type and it is a pretty safe car, AWD, TC and like 9 airbags. Just imagine if this happened with him driving a Civic...

He was alone in the car, therefore the passenger side airbag(s) wouldn't have been deployed. Secondary sensors for the passenger airbags most prolly located in the the passenger seat..

Anyways, hope your son will have a speedy recovery.

Edit : Having said that, the impact of the rollovers should've deployed ALL (9) of 'em..(Not sure about the Jag Xtype, but no 'curtain' type airbags around the doorframe etc..?)

As a new parent, I am so relieved for you that your son made it through that. However, you absolutely need to speak to him about wearing a seatbelt. It is way better than a "50/50" chance of helping in an accident. Let me run you through a few scenarios.

Let's say you were going 25 MPH and hit a car in front of you (rearend). What is your face going to hit?? A steering wheel at 25MPH. Next time you are in your car, bring your face up to your steering wheel and tap your mouth on it. Now imagine "tapping" your mouth on it at 25MPH.

    That's just one example.

If you say that it will help 50/50, please really think about if you can come up with ONE example of where a seatbelt won't prevent extra damage. Just one. I'll bet you can't. You are one click away from preventing a lot.

I had a friend who was killed in a car accident back my Junior year of highschool. We played football together and he was huge. 6''5" 275 and getting letters from every D-1 school in the country. He wasn't wearing his belt and died at the scene from massive head trauma. The other guy in the car was wearing his and walked away (literallly) without a scratch on him.

I haven't stopped thinking about him and haven't ever gone without a belt since.

That car has ABS so no "locked up the brakes" is possible.
Luckily he survived but use the incident as a lesson for future, send him to a driving school (Skip Barber,Bondurant both have teenage driving courses).
No seatbelts on,definitely high speed (too high for conditions and his nonexistent skills) tell you something about his lack of judgement.

One think the roof of or car was smashed down all the way on the drivers seat where I would believe the roof would have broke his neck. But I hear people walking away without seat belts and the other people dieindg with them on. There is even a video where the driver was wearing her seatbelt and the two passangers wasnt and she died and they didnt. It all comes down to the kind of accident it is.

Well you say ABS can not lock up then how did he have four skid marks. Airbags in the roof why did they not go off. Cars are made by people and thinks dont always work right. And I have owned alot of cars were ABS screws up.

Ask yourself when the last time you ever saw a professional driver without a seatbelt. NASCRAP, open wheel, SCCA (any class), F1, every last one cinches those belts as the FIRST thing they do. Do you really want to take the chane on the "type" of accident that an 18 year old with no experience is going to have? Hope he gets well soon, but MAKE him wear the seatbelt even if you don't.
