While trying to find the electrical culprit for my FPump fuse blowing (82 308 GTSi) I think I'm getting close. I found some sparking from (excuse my technical lingo) the plate on the third controller underneath the emergency handbrake. See photo...

My plates are loose cause I haven't decide whether to re-chrome the existing bezels or replaced them or live with them as they are. Only the one plate sparks and I can't figure out why cause it doesn't look like there would be any electrical current running thru those sliders, just mechanical right??

Those controls (on your non-carb car) only control the heater valves and air diverters. There is no electrical component to those controls - cables only. If you are sparking they are probably pinching a wire from the rat's nest of wiring that exists under the console. Work to bundle up the wiring as best you can and make sure no wires get near the moving parts of the controls under the deck.

Rat's nest is right... add a couple of extra window relays from previous owner and there are wires everywhere!
