Good morning - It sure looks different seeing all the new names making a total of 28 this year on the list! Practice is as always testing for specifics but you can't help but get caught up in who's going fastest . . . for the first practice times for 2006, it's once again Wurz with a lap time orf 1:35.079 with 8 completed. He just got displaced by Kubica with a 1:34.700. Only a few of the "heavy hitters" out right now but are only showing sector 2 & 3 times. Kimi shows 2 laps but only S2&S3 times. It's 2:22 am local time for me - back to the computer watching. Speed tv is on at 5 am my time. It's begun - yipee!!! Carol
YES!!! its F1 TIME!!!... i was wonderin who else is up to watch live timing to start the 2006 season. I cant wait till the ferraris put up a time.
****Top 10 times**** 1. R. KUBICA 1:32.170 2. A. WURZ 1:32.184 +.014 3. K. RAIKKONEN 1:33.388 +1.218 4. M. SCHUMACHER 1:33.469 +1.299 5. C. KLIEN 1:24.800 +2.630 6. N. JANI 1:34.831 +2.661 7. J. Massa shows in 5th place - that's good!! shows 1:35.229 MS is out now - see what that brings . . .3rd fastest S1, 3rd in S2, yipee!! MS is in 3rd, Massa bumped to 9th and KR in 3rd bumping MS to 4th. Oop's changed again and session just about over. Session over. Kubica Wurz KR MS Klien Jani JPM Massa DC Luizzi Doornbos Speed Monteiro Albers Winkelhock Sato Ide (other with sector times only) No Rubens, Button, Webber or Rosberg in P1. Get to see the real thing pretty soon on the tv. Time to feed horses, cows and dogs - I think they are all confused this morning -breakfast is a tad early. It's really great seeing Ferrari back up the the top 10. Carol
I found this to be depressing reading: http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=35173 Can we take up a collection to buy Max and Bernie a clue? As for first practice times, coming out and setting a decent time in two hot laps was pretty impressive from Schumacher, M: his first flying lap was only half a second slower than his second one. But not much to go on, ignoring third drivers half the field didn't even set a time.....
The Williams FW28 looks stunning. They're saying its Cosworth has 745 bhp, the most in the field. Edit: They said the teams collectively spent 1 Billion Euros on the V8 development. STR spent a few dollars drilling a hole through a carbon fiber plate to restrict airflow to the V10. They showed the McLaren while saying all of this and the chrome-look actually looks awesome!
I am and have been since watching live timing on the computer at 2:15 am. Watching tv now - commerical time. I like the paint job on the Toro Rosso cars. Only V10 (detuned obviously) running in the field. Looks like Wurz has Friday competition with Kubica. Carol Back to computer - MS bumped to P3, Massa P7 Anyone else see the flat spot on Massa's front tire? certainly didn't look good - a big time blow waiting to happen. Definitely don't want to miss qualifying tomorrow since it seems that the powers to be are still playing with the rules for same! Hope that Kubica's front tire problem (although it looks like there's something stuck in the tread) is not a sign of things to come from Bridgestone and Michelin - that make two similar occurrances thus far and it's only P2!! Kimi stops on the track, puts steering wheel back on and what a way to start 2006.
Its interesting that all the hype about Williams doesn't really seem true. Ferrari was quite surprising though, MS 2nd, Massa 4th. With all these people going out during practice though it should make for an interesting race.
Great practice! Top Ten: Davidson 1:31.353 MS 1:31.751 Wurz 1:31.764 Massa 1:32.175 Alonso 1:32.538 Luizzi 1:32.703 Doornbos 1:32.926 Fisichella 1;33.215 Button 1:33.226 Kubica 1:33.244 Take away the Friday drivers and it's A FERRARI 1 2 Where's Impy??? Carol
Sheesh, now I gotta sort through this mess and make my picks for the FF1 thingy. And boy is my face red, after saying I thoughtToyota would be quick...oops! The Williams has the speed, Button and Barichello haven't found it yet, but it's there....
Its got me why Honda dont use Davidson as a main driver.Even last year he usually outpaced Button and Sato
It's 4am, but not too bad considering the Scuderia's performance. Not that you can take too much from the practice sessions, except that I'd rather see Ferrari in the top-4 than buried in the teens. Massa at the top, though temporarily, was very encouraging. I'd expect to see more competitive results from Honda, Renault and McLaren come qualifying. All of those testing results won't go for naught when the season starts. McLaren, though, has to be concerned with Kimi smoking out yet again...
Isn't Wurz with Williams this year? I don't know what's happening with the real drivers, but the car seems to have potential.
I've often wondered the same thing. This is for sure Button's "make it or break it" year. Similar thoughts are also applicable to Wurz. Carol
Yea, seems to have good potential. Reminds me when Williams and BMW were together in the early years and Williams had the most powerful engine on the grid (at the time and now for this season). They did well with the car, but took them several years with the engine to get 2nd in CC.
Kimi with flashbacks of last year....the more things change the more they stay the same. His Merc went bye bye. And the McL does look hideous on TV IMO
Who needs sleep? Finally, after months of sheer boredom, the new season begins! Thank the Lord, I was so tired of waiting! Two things: I'm SO glad to see Schumacher back in the top ten, and I feel really bad for Raikkonen (engine problems already?!?). Also, I no longer have any interest in how Barrichello drives. I agree with F1 Racing: he screwed himself by leaving Ferrari.
Did any of you see what it says on the side of Kimi's car??? "Keep walking" ......... Maybe he was just doing what the sponsors asked.. Rennmaus
Today is posturing. Saturday is qualifying. That will tell the true story for Sunday. MS looked relaxed in the garage, so maybe today was for real.
