They are allowed to have tobacco sponsorships in Bahrain (also the case with Abu Dhabi - where the new grand prix will be held starting from 2009). Lots of politics here ... :)

Or is it just for the testing that it's allowed, and it'll be banned when the season starts?? I don't know.....

if thats the case, they should carry on with the Marlboro logo when they come to Sepang for tests.

this is really a silly rule actually. either u ban it entirely, and u let it. but i personaly think the Ferrari looks better with Marlboro, rather than the bar codes.

Surely they can't run it during the season, or it'd be broadcast internationally to all the smoking advertisement banning countries. Ferrari has a contract with Marlboro until 2009, right? I guess most people know what the barcodes stand for anyway, but they've gotta be pi**ed right?

Well they renegotiated and extended the deal until 2012 before last year. They knew what was happening (the move towards no tobacco sponsorship has been a trend for years now) and have decided that the bar codes are worth their money.

What I think is interesting is that Marlboro also uses the bar code in MotoGP. At what point of usage does the bar code become just as much of a trademark and logo as the word Marlboro. Seems to me that when the company uses it in multiple places, it is now a logo (and thus banned), not just a design painted on the Ferrari.

    2007 Ducati

I just noticed how close the liveries of the Ducati and Ferrari are. With Alice on board now they share major sponsers too (Marlboro, Shell). Here is Loris Capirossi in his team gear which is also extremely similar to the Ferrari gear. And here is the Ducati with Marlboro. Has it always been this similar?

Now that we see this new Marlboro logo, the new Scuderia Ferrari Logo makes a little more sense. They both have the same new style.

They should've outlawed the barcodes too, make it illegal to do any
sponsorship deals with tobacco companies. There are many companies
like McDonalds or Coke that won't touch F1 with tobacco still involved.
    Hurts every other team.

I don't get why tobacco is banned, but stuff like alcohol/spirits are still allowed.

I am not a fan of the Marlboro font on this car. Makes i look more like an IRL car rather than a Ferrari :(

Ironic that the respective factories are 1/2 hour from each other in Emilia-Romagna. The Malboro/Alice/Shell people must like that....

As for the prohibited sponsorship issue, it's tobacco now; alcohol will soon follow; since NYC has banned trans-fats that can't be far behind (how did the People's Republic of Kalifornia miss that one?); Bill Gates limits his daughter's computer time so it must be harmful, so banning computer-related sponsors will come about one day, cellphones may cause brain cancer so that'll be next, etc.....
