With their October 30 date it looks like India will then be December 11 which will please the teams http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/91911 Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn says a season finale on December 11 is "totally unacceptable" and revealed that the teams have told Bernie Ecclestone as much.
Politically this will be very interesting. I dont think waiting 1 year was unrealistic. 2012 would have been a sound move.
+1 *IF* (and it's a very big if) FOTA can stand united for once they may get their wish - I'm with Ross here - Racing into December is crazy. [Unless they allow the return of test teams.....] Cheers, Ian
Agree'd. This will not go away if they in fact, approve adding this to the calendar for 2011. They should approach this for next year if at all.
What a shame... I think we all should not watch that race. i'm really ashamed for the sport and not proud to be a fan right now.
Yet you watch the Chinese race, where democracy is non existent and workers in the factory cities are treated abysmally and have zero political power to change anything. Come to think of it, that describes Bernie Ecclestone's business.
This seems very short sighted, for the Prince to have his folly, Bernie his money and an international spotlight for any protesters...sounds like a bad mix, and F1 till December, why not a race Christmas Day, to watch after the holiday meal? PB
Not a good move right now...IMO, but be it on FIA Vice President Carlos Gracia's head if it goes tits up, who reckoned it's OK for the Formula 1 circus to return to the kingdom this year.
As the race date approaches the protests will heat up just like last time and the race will be cancelled yet again. Then we'll have a long, boring 4 week gap before the final 3 races of the season.
Look at the bright side folks. Vettel should wrap the championship up before Bahrain, and everybody can go home after that < ha ha>.
Maybe this is just a cover for India moving to December because it wont be ready in time for October? So we don't get a repeat of Korea? Then when it comes to October and the race gets cancelled again the FIA/FOM can wash their hands and remove the circuit from the season. Anyway I'd like to see every FIA member that voted yes to be sitting in the grandstands at this event if it goes ahead..
