I know that many here recommend the Baldwin B253 as a good oil filter option replacement for 308s. I just called my local Fleet Pride and the guy I spoke with stated that they do not stock the B253, but they do stock the B252. He said that he went through this with a customer last week and found that the B253 and the B252 were identical, both have the bypass, ect.

Searching this forum I cannot find anything about the B252. Kind of a shot in the dark, but does anybody here have any real life experience with these different filter models, or know in fact that they are same and I will not have any issues going with the B252?

    Disregard.

Just checked Baldwin's site and the 252 is a transmission filter. Guess I won't be taking any advice from anybody at Fleet Pride any time soon.

    Good one.

Parts counter people usually try to help but their advice should not be accepted as gospel.

Check Baldwin's website for the local vendor in your area..

In my case it's a Truck Supply over on the east side, by the Port.....it's an adventure just driving over....I needed a Name Patch on my shirt, to fit in.....

Could they have meant the Baldwin BT216 filter ??? I stock both the Bt 253 and 216 for use in my shop and the one I prefer is the 253 and they tell me it has a higher psi rating than the 216. The 253 is also heavier...

The difference is that the B253 has the internal standpipe and the B252 does not -- you can go to www.baldwinfilters.com and look at the datasheets for both (click on the e-catalog and enter "B252" and "B253"). For a 308 (gasket end down), the B253 is the better choice IMO (for models that have gasket end up use the B252).

Call Baldwin direct..thet've been selling me two at a time over the phone for ten years..but maybe that's too easy. Just be polite and request their catalog. The are terriffically nice folks. I hope that this is of some value. Thank you. Jacques.

I've gotten them 6 at a time from CompleteFiltration (these folks):

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BALDWIN-B253-QTY-6-Ferrari-Lancia-Porsche-Automoti-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem483b1b6549QQitemZ310229296457QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

They ship fast, and with shipping costs it comes out to $13 per filter.

The wealth of information, and more importantly the willingness to share, on F-chat never ceases to amaze me. I got two correct 'B253' filters from Grainger.

I like to use a K&N air filter as my oil filter on my 308. That's what the parts counter guy told me to use. Bit of a fight getting it to fit however.

    I figure it's a performance upgrade being a K&N and all......

Baldwin is easy to find, search the Internet. I can get them mailed to my house for a total cost of about $11 each.

    Ovis,

I bought a Baldwin B50 for the Fiat a few months ago from Associated Diesel. Six bucks and change, plus very quick turnaround.
