My service centre has found a pair of "challenge" chips laying around from an old challenge car, these will fit my car. I am not sure of the origin of these chips (factory/custom mapped) but my service guy said they are challenge chips and will improve the HP.

I have read (after a search) lots of opinions on this subject ranging from no such thing as a "challenge chip" to seat of the pants power increases.

The price has not been finalized yet buy my question is would it be worth putting these chips into my car? At the moment I only have a quicksilver exhaust (mufflers) up grade, I am still running cats, everything else is stock. Would I be better getting some K&N filters or maybe a new air box and some test pipes/hyper-flows?

I am not looking for massive gains, but best bang for buck upgrades.

Pass on the K&N, not worth the potential problems from oil deposits on the MAF. To me the best upgrades are weight savings, you get a benefit in acceleration, braking, handling, and even gas mileage! There's some good threads around about the best areas for saving weight...

James---I can't imagine any type of chip or reflash of the ECU will do anything without a full aftermarket exhaust first. I would go with a full aftermarket exhaust, headers, cats, bypass pipe, etc before messing with the computer.... You have a Quicksilver already---Grab some HyperFlows or Fabspeed headers next..... That secondary cat bypass pipe I have on Ebay is calling your name!! :D

Good thinking! Weight saving is why I'm at the gym lol I'm down to 76kgs now haha. But seriously, you are totally correct, i will do a search and take a look around. :)

Another good point Robbie, I was thinking along similar lines but wanted to use this as a sounding board for ideas. I have a header on its way out now so these are already on the shopping list, test pipes are also on this list. PM me a link to your eBay auction, ill take a look ;)

If everything comes through, I'm going to have a handsome 348 Challenge Grill for you along about mid-July. ;)
