I'll be racing COTA in a few weeks. You guys got favorite recs for bar-be-que in Austin and Buda. Regards, Pork Lover
Also in Lockhart is my preference -Blacks, Best known is the original salt lick, west of I35, probably 40-45 minutes away from COTA. Can't really go wrong with any of them, heck, try them all Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Smokey Mo's is my personal favorite go-to ; they have multiple locations around town and... you can't go wrong with Rudy's.
The Rudy's in Round Rock has the coolest hand washing device ever created! Almost worth the trip by itself.
Most of them have that. Same with Mighty Fine Burgers (same company). As for BBQ, lots of choices, but seriously... as much as people want you to visit the Salt Lick, I say... skip it. Ambiance? Sure. Novelty of BYOB in a dry county? Sure. But otherwise, it is 'good' but not out of this world. There are far better places like Blacks, which is already mentioned. As for near the track, make sure to stop by Wild Bubbas Wild Game Grill. It's not far from the track.
Franklin's...or Sam's east Austin Also listed in Urbansppon are: County Line (west Austin) Ruby's (north) Iron Works (downtown) Lamberts Stubbs Not sure why Stubbs would be on there as the Old man is long dead, it's mainly a music venue now.. Missing is LDs on south Lamar..
Skip County Line. Good bread, decent sides, about it. Franklins, sure... but only if you have a few hours to spare for standing in line.
Tried both Iron Works & Stubb's, kinda disappointed in both despite all the hype. The Green Mesquite on Barton Springs is a great place, one of my favorites. A friend took me to a excellent place somewhere in east Austin, not in the best neighborhood but great BBQ, sorry I can't remember the name of it. One thing I do remember is James James is a regular there.

Dude. We'll get you taken care. But some of the best is in Llano, which is a 1 to 2 hour drive west of Austin, depending on traffic, which is always bad, so let's say 3 hours. Dale
Dale's talkin' about Coopers. Opies used to be my favorite, but I've been disappointed the last few times.
I don't remember the names. I just know how to get there. From what I recall, there are two good places across the street from each other. First time I ever stopped there was about 1988. I got a chopped beef sandwich to go and started driving to San Angelo where I had to put on a seminar. I got about a half hour down the road before the smell drove me crazy. Man, that was the best chopped beef I had ever eaten. It forced me to turn around and go back. I didn't want to go to San Angelo anyway. Dale
Certainly within the top 3 ever. Pork Chops and cobbler ... oh my. You've never had pork chops, til you've had them from Cooper's.

+1 for Franklin, hands down the best in Austin! Heads up for those who may not know but you can order from them if the order is over $100 and you give them a 2-3 week notice. You don't even have to wait in line to pick it up.
