They'll do flo-viz testing (aero - green paint) then reliability testing....lap after lap after lap. As far as setting high trap speeds and "opening her up" we wont know the full results come Melbourne during quali. These tests are merely for aero and reliability (getting in as many laps as possilble...usually 120 to 140 laps a day).

I think they believe they will do better but the Renault engine is still the third best on the grid. And they got the engine late which has created compromises to their layout. This is a rebuilding year for them and I'm not sure how Alonso can run in two series and still be 100% committed.

Believe me even in my humble Formula Ford Formula Renault racing days in the late 80's you needed to take it one step at a time early in the year when getting back on track after a long winter. At today's F1 level they still need to validate everything in the real world on track, to establish a baseline before getting too fancy with setup and exotic aero configurations, brakes, suspension etc...to avoid getting lost and confused, confer Alonso's point of view, ever dismissive of simulators...
