Anyone know how the long run pace of Ferrari compares to Red Bull?

 

Great stuff, Doug always has something worthwhile to say. More recently I recall that when the formula went from 3.5 down to 3 litre displacement it was rumored that Jordan ran the 3.5 during testing to lure sponsorship. Does anyone remember this--and was there any truth to it?

 

If the above is representative, i have to say I like where Ferrari stands at the moment. Looks to be better positioned.

They'll only ban it if someone copies it...and then at the end of the season.

 

No, anyone that copies it will get it banned immediately if it gives them the same advantage it does Mercedes, they will let Mercedes use it till they don’t need points later in the season, then ban it

The Bottas vs Leclerc mirroring continues - 16.5 for VB , 16.6 for the Ferrari yesterday on the first set of C5s! Fascinating battle and now Vettel has matched their C4 times with a 16.9 too - he was shifting UP a gear into T9 where I’m watching!! Amazing


Anybody know the significance of that upshift ?

As if to underline Lewis Hamilton's point, Sebastian Vettel uncorks a 1:16.352 to hit the top of the timesheet once again for Ferrari.

The Scuderia now have the quickest TWO times of Winter Testing from both their drivers.

We await tyre confirmation on that...but that's very quick yet again from the SF90.

 

16.3 for Seb on the c4

Seb on a c5. Fuel loads and engine settings are the variables now but less so; Ferrari appear to have built a very stable car.

 

A guess on my part but indicating that he was keeping the throttle down and continuing to accelerate (rather than off throttle and just leaving in whatever gear he was in going into the corner)?

 

Every comment from a trackside observer states how planted and stable the Ferrari is-good news as that will not only help with speed but also tire degradation. Still early but Ferrari could certainly look far worse....

 

16.2 for Vettel on C5s.

Even more impressive is that he did a 16.7 on C3s which are two steps harder and, per Pirelli, should be a 1.2 (I think) deficit to the C5 although at this track the C5s may be too soft for a full lap.

Lewis Hamilton thinks Mercedes could trail Ferrari by as much as half a second as Formula 1 pre-season testing draws to a close.

Ferrari boasts the quickest time from the two weeks of running at Barcelona so far, with Mercedes' best time - set by Valtteri Bottas on the final morning - currently three tenths slower.

Hamilton believes Ferrari's advantage could be even bigger, although he admitted he is "not quite sure" what the true gap is.

"I think it's potentially half a second," he said.

"Something like that, potentially.

"We will be analysing a lot from this test and there will be some modes that we try to implement.

"There's not a lot of time hopefully we'll gain a tenth at least just on our understanding of the car.

"The car is old now, it's worn and torn, so we'll have new components.

"All that stuff will come along. So, it's interesting."

Fuel loads and engine modes can contribute to dramatic swings in lap times, which makes it almost impossible to make direct comparisons in testing.

Hamilton said he was not particularly concerned by replicating Ferrari's lap times as "there's no reward for being quickest in testing so it doesn't really matter".

 

Sure, Ferrari could "potentially" be half a second clear. Of course, Mercedes could "potentially" be a second faster too...

 

Only in Melbourne will the truth be show for us of course
