    Hello,
Ferrari puts the VIN on the steering column and etched on the chassis in the engine compartment. There is also a sticker in the driver's door jam with a barcode and VIN. What if this sticker does not match the chassis and steering column VIN?
    Thank you.

It is a car I am looking to buy. The title matches the steering column and chassis VIN. The door jam sticker is incorrect. Supposedly a "mistake" made by Ferrari and is being corrected. Seller has been honest with me about it.
I'm curious if this is a common Ferrari mistake or if something else is going on.

I wouldn't call Ferrari mistakes uncommon but this one probably is.

Have you searched the door jam sticker vin to see what that leads back to?

I agree. The car could have been painted and the wrong label applied. Something to look for...

Good idea, I did not cross check the door jam sticker VIN. Will do that and report back.
Yes, it appears to be a mistake and Ferrari is sending a correct sticker. Have not seen the new sticker yet.
    Thank you.

Ferrari prints new door jamb stickers frequently. FOH printed a new one for my 612 when it was bubbly and peeling.

It happened sometimes. We were supposed to specifically inspect that during the PDI. When we found a car that way we were sent a new label to put on the car. This reflects the attention paid to their job by the selling dealer and most of the people who have touched it along the way. Not a really good sign.

The bar code is scanned for most inspections so the wrong car was probably entered in a few systems over the years. Also if it changes states when sold many states require a vin verification and it may turn up then. Ferrari will provide a new sticker but you'll have to go through a dealer to do it and supply documentation etc.

Isn't there at least one other thread in this section regarding this very thing? I know I've read about it before...

Likely a mistake, however, i'd inspect it very closely for any indication its been rebuilt / repaired. Although i'd admit a door jam is unlikely... unless it was t-boned by a train lol

Maybe more along the lines of the chest beating "My car has the most miles". That reaches real heights of inconsequence.

It happened more then people think. Doing it to my 355 right now, you have to contact your ferrari dealer - supply lots of photos - in my case frame vin, title, on top of steering wheel column, vin plate, and 4 or 5 pictures of car. They then send all pictures to the factory and the wait begins.

I also spoke with the rep from FNA and he confirmed it was an occasional occurrence with this Vin sticker - he stated no problem that Ferrari would take care of it. I got it 2 weeks ago from my dealer that reacived it from Maranello, I was not charged anything.

I'm under the impression they will do this only if it's clearly their mistake.

I'm in the process of getting replacements now as I plan to paint the car. I'm told the dealer can get what I need but won't know any cost until it's done.

Yes, John I did. See my 95 restoration thread. Contact I dealer - I'd rather not post price.
