Looks like someone picked up a nice Mondial tonight at the auction for $27,500.

However, as usual, Speed Channel cut to a commercial just b/f the bidding for the car started.
They have done the same thing the last few years whenever an Fcar gets onto the block.

    Got to wonder why.

No surprise that they would cut to a commercial for a ferrari.

From reading the description, I have 2 questions:

    1) Is it original?
    2) Do the numbers match?

You can tell the muscle car influence in the description, where the more times you can say numbers matching, the higher the price goes.

WHich is really ironic because when we were buying "muscle cars" when the were just production CARS, we immediately modified them! Of course they were not called "muscle cars" at the time but I never saw a muscle car in the "muscle car era" that was bone stock for more than a few months at the most. I can't figure out where these totally stock, low mileage muscle cars were hiding. We drove the heck out of them!

I drove a new Mopar home from the dealer - 37 miles - and immediately changed the pistons, cam, intake manifold, carb, and installed headers. Stuff like that was pretty common.

Matching numbers? We'd have called any such car a slug! Frankly, I still would. Oh well, times change...

Funny that everyone caught on to the commerical timing - they'll likely repeat that program what 30-40 times over the next two months, so the one time it is live and we can follow along at home in "real time", they cut out...

Also, throwing a Ferrari in with a mix of Ford and Chevy's didn't help the price...though truth be told, if I was in the market for a Mondial I'd be happy with the amount.

The Barrett-Jackson auction and auctioneers remind me of a used furniture and swap meet auction I somehow was roped into going to in the middle of hillbilly Illinois. They thought an American Express black card was a racial gesture, but then again BJ does have red carpets and big 'ol TVs.

Scroll through their list of cars to be actioned - over 50% chevy. Lots of ex GM owned cars, you would think they are in trouble. Loved it when they were trying to sell some ordinary Tony Stewart (his signature in tape on the side of the car like a GTO judge)monte carlo and the one announced said this is not a collector car and never wil be- total silence from Varsha and the other 3 ninnies. Hint to steve davis, take off the glasses, you look like a guy trying to sell someone a piece of crap and are afraid to look them in the eye.

Anyone get a chance to bid on those saturns?

Real freak show there, that BJ auction.

I think the same thing, but I want to make sure he doesn't have a visual impairment before I call him a flat out goob.

These things have become redundant over the years. The last beacon of hope for the American Muscle Car with Craig Jackson and Steve Davis as their glorified pimps. Yet I, like many others, still watch it like a car wreck.

Since the car sold for $27,500, which included the 10% buyer's premium, does that mean that the seller only got $25,000 for the car? If so, ouch -- especially considering that the service was up to date, the belts had just been done, oh, and that the numbers matched.

That is correct, the buyer got $25K, and BJ gets $2500 on both ends

Really lice looking TR just gaveled down at $77K. That car (and the Mondial, and the Porsche Turbo S, etc...) would've done better on eBay or through this forum. The seller would've been better off as well finding some in-between ground as opposed to paying the pimps 10% for what is essentially market value ($84,7K for the TR). I just don't see B-J as a Ferrari venue (or anything other than American iron for that matter).

I was at a bar when several patrons had the BJ auction on one of the big-screens...NOBODY was interested in anything 'foreign', they all had hard-ons for US Iron only. Meh....the real tale was how many EMPTY seats were there within the bidding house. BJ looked desperate to get real sales going, even Ford had brought out a small army of kids to help sell 'charity' cars. I didn't see anything really rare roll onto the stage....

When I was a kid, the BJ auction was a real big deal, because it was the only time/place a kid from Phoenix could get a chance to see at least once a year, collectable cars of the calibre of European exotica, and the only American cars of note were of the 20's & 30's like Duesenbergs, Cords, etc, with a smattering of 40's and 50's stuff. There simply werent alot of venues where old 50's & 60's Ferraris and such would change hands back then. I remember the first time I saw a '57 Testa Rossa burble up onto the stage back around 1987. The stage was much smaller than todays, and the owner of the car was not afraid to rev it up a few times for the crowd before it sold. I dont remember for how much and dont really care. I was just there to see the cars gather.
Todays Barett-Jackson is not even worth going to. I cant understand why anyone sells their car there, or especially buys one anymore. The seller will have to pay a premium to BJ, and the buyer can expect to pay a typically inflated figure compared to market for just about any given car. Its not even fun to go to and look anymore. I mean, how many Camaros, Mustangs, '57 Chevy's and streetrods can one person stand?
Im sure there are muscle car fans out there that not only disagree with me, but look forward to BJ every year, I am just not one of them. I guess its because I grew up in the Southwest, and excellent condition Mustang and Camaro daily drivers were everywhere. I have never been nearly as impressed by these cars as even a modestly rare '60's Lancia, a 50's Fiat, or even 74 Alfa GTV. And of course, just about any European exotica, (especially Ferrari) of any vintage has always been more impressive to see.
Unfortunately, there are hardly any to see at BJ anymore.

I think BJ has gone for the American stuff, but Goodings seemed more eurocentric. They had a 288GTO within the first 5 lots today.

The Mondial looked better in pictures than it did in person. It was a bit high a price maybe for the condition it was in. It was detailed within an inch of its life and teh paint was pretty old looking in person. Also yes that means that the seller got the car for 10% less that it sold for but it also means that the buyer also paid 10% over the hammer price at the auction.
