I've been watching some of the Barrett Jackson auto auction the last couple nights. A 1985 Ferrari 308 GTS QV sold for $59,400. Link for the description of the car is below. Was there something super special about this car that I'm missing for it to have sold for $59,400? http://www.barrett-jackson.com/events/scottsdale/vehicles/cardetail_list.asp?id=178210
The 59K has 8% that goes to B-J. B-J is only good for auctioning off the rarest of the rare cars that have no "exact" value. The B-J employees and the Speed coverage warps some peoples minds and they bid way to much sometimes. Horrible place to buy a car unless it just isn't available elsewhere. Anyone see that Enzo owner spend $3M for the Oldsmobile show car from the '50s? Craig Jackson had a big grin for his 16% commision off that hammer!
B-J's AZ auction is probably the only "seller's market" car auction in the world. There are a whole lot of buyers there. My dad used to restore muscle cars in the late 80s and early 90s and we'd hit the AZ auction every year. That looks like a Euro car too, surprised they didnt mention that.
More likely a US car with a Euro front air dam. Look at the side markers. The photo does look odd though doesn't it.
I was watching last night (Sat) and noticed, first, there are not many Ferraris being sold and, second, those that did weren't that spectacular. A Boxer with lots of aftermarket crap, excessive smoke and oil leaks for 37,000, a stock Boxer for approx 58,000, a 355 for 90,000 and a 360 for 166,000. B-J is definately a muscle car/hot rod auction. 305,000 for a Hemi Cuda (a prototype I believe). Still an interesting way to kill some time and see interesting cars. David Goerndt
