This Sunday is the Barrington Concours. It will be held at Arlington Park Race Track from 9AM-4PM. Several very nice cars will be on display. I would not miss this event if you are able to attend. Several world class cars including
a Delahaye 135M Cabriolet and the FCA Ferrari 2008 concours winning 250 GTL Lusso will be shown.

I hope it's better than the car show they had in downtown Barrington today. You had to walk 8 blocks each direction to two different corrals of cars Vette's and BMW'S. The Lambo and Ferrari lot had maybe 18 cars (coming and going) the whole time. Never found the other locations that had 5 cars parked there. No action what so ever!

I think local car shows have become boring to many people, I know it did to me a number of years ago.

You'll rarely see anything new and interesting that you haven't seen before. Now a true Concours d'Elegance is a different story, such as at Pebble Beach.

You'll see cars that are rarely seen anywhere else, and if seen, very seldom. I think this is what you'll see at Arlington Park.

I long ago gave up on the typical summer car shows.

How can you say "stunning?" With no detail showing, it just looks like a blue car......or did I miss a better pic.?

I saw a couple of nice cars on the Arlington Park Concours list, so I am going.

Particularly the examples from the "Pony cars" class: Mustangs, Camaros and Firebirds.

Can't wait to see those pictures. Nott.

I really hope this event will find its way back on its feet again: It was a wonderful experience last year and I hope it can return to that glory in 2009.

Not into "pony cars". They had several Ferrari's including the Pebble Beach 250 Europa and a superb 250 GT/L Lusso. Several nice Lancia's including
a B24 Spider and Flaminia Sport Zagato. The Delahaye and many nice Auburn, Packard, Duesenberg and Rolls Royce prewar cars. For the Pony car guys, they did have a Yenko Camaro, Hertz GT350 and Hemi cuda on display along with lots of 1950's American battleship type automobiles. It was a nice mix. They even had some vintage motorcycles. Dont forget all the German stuff including a BMW 327 and 328, Mercedes 540K, Gullwing, Isetta, Messerschmitt Tiger ect.

    Nice event.

Can you give an estimate on how many people were in attendance? Did you go to last year's event, was it more/less/same than/as that?

What the event lacked this year was a class for modern exotics. I hope that will return next year.

I missed last years event so im not sure. The problem is space.
They only had 100 cars according to one of the judges I talked to.
They need to allow for more cars. Arlington Park looked great, but the park
has to allow for use of more green space. They blocked off a section.
I think they are headed in the right direction.

    As I said, nice event.

They are actually going in the WRONG direction. Last year's event that was held at the Makray Golf Course had more of a concours feel. The quality of cars were much better too! The club cars were supposed to be in a special area close to the entrance of the Arlington Park racetrack, not at the end of the parking lot. The only cars that were there were 3 Lambos a viper and a few corvettes. The car show that was Saturday in the downtown area was another bust. There was a 3 mile spread between the parking corrals. There were MAYBE a few in each lot with the exception of the Corvette corral. THe Exotic lot had only 18 cars total (Lambo, Ferrari, Viper, Porsche). The pictures speak for themselves! No festival atmosphere what-so-ever! More pictures here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/11340774@N06/sets/72157607773373391/

They should pay us $35 to attend not the other way around!

    +1

Here's hoping that they learn from this year's experience and 2009 will be good again.

Wow, I think your right about the golf course. It looks really nice. They
really need to get more space from the track. They also need to allow more
than 100 cars to be on display. If the track wont give them the space they should move again next year. They did have some nice cars on display this year, but they also need a modern sportscar class. The car club lot was a JOKE. I was waiting for a Porsche being test driven to come flying into the car club area.

When you compare Pebble Beach /Monterey historic entry prices, this was cheap.

By the way, I have been to the Monterey Historical races/Pebble Beach 8 times. This in no way compares to that, but it is nice to see a good local effort. I did not like the amount of 1950's American regular street cars on display.

You should be on the committe next year. THese 5 stepford wives that planned this, are CLUELESS!!!! I got into an argument about them NOT wanting the Ferrari's or Lambo's INSIDE the track. They kept saying the the "club cars" belong in the parking lot. I'M SURE ENZO AND FERUCCIO ARE ROLLING OVER IN THEIR GRAVES!!!!

That's too bad :( Looks like last year's kicked ass. That versace LP640 is awesome. I think 1 of 3 in black on black.

Well, if for no other reason to go, my good friends, Jack & Virginia Taylor were there with their RR (Jack had the radio & TV shows 'Stock Market Observer') for many years before he retired.

Also, I see Robert E.A.P. Ritholz in your 13th pic (the one with the shaved head and stash') . Did he have his Silver Dawn on display? They're all great people and are very unassuming.

It is too bad the organizers seem to have little regard for car clubs. It seems short sighted to alienate the local car clubs as a way to establish a new Concours.

For that reason I did not attend this year. Last year’s event was nice, even though the club parking was very far away from the main show.
