I was happy to be the winning bidder on the 550 transmission! I plan to eventually install it into the 575 I bought on BAT (# ...6969) a couple years ago. My car was the one that had the build chroncled on FChat by whiteout, step by step as he built the car.

The car has been great, very reliable and a little rowdy, a real favorite at Ferrari events! I welcome any advice or suggestions on where to purchase the additional parts I will need to do the transmission installation. Also, any recommendations of a good shop to install the transmission for me. We have a great independent shop in Chattanooga, but I am not sure if they have experience in doing these types of swaps. It should be a fun project!

Rich- Why would you want to install a 550 transaxle in a 575M? The 575M transaxle is a beefed-up version of the 550's with triple synchros on the lower gears and parts shared with the 612 and much higher torque Enzo and 599. The 575M F1 transaxle is exactly the same as the 3 pedal 575M transaxle with external mods for the F1 system, all of which can be relatively easily removed.

You would actually be going backwards with this exchange.

You should ditch the transmission and pull off the external gearbox actuator - that’s a very hard part to get and would cost a good amount of what you paid for the full transaxle… if you ever had the opportunity to buy one. So that’s a great score in terms of a very hard to find OEM part.

The big parts you need now are the solid shift linkage and clutch pedal (@brogenville may be able to help) and of course the turret and shift gate. From there things get easier; the hard lines for the clutch fluid are easily made, the clutch master cylinder is easily buyable. Trev will tune it.

But Terry is correct, keep the more robust 575 transaxle in your car and do the external work on top of it.

Taz and Qksilver are exactly why I love FChat! My technical knowledge is limited, but I have gained so much over the years by visiting the FChat Forum. Similarly, I would not have bid on my BAT 575 had I not been schooled by whiteout on FChat on why and how he made the mods on #6969.

I bought a 550 years ago at a reasonable used car price, and then I sold it and bought a manual 575 when I found a nice car on FChat. The 575 seemed much nicer to drive that the 550, but I never understood the differences in the 550 and 575 transaxle. Eventually the appreciated value of the manual 575 allowed me to bank some money and move into a 599. Sometimes other life priorities require a little liquidation!

I missed the manual 575 ever since, but it nice to know that I may have a way to get back to that driving experience. Thanks to my fellow FChat'ers!

Hopefully @brogenville will be able to lead me to some neccessary parts for the conversion.

Hi Rich, congratulations on the gearbox score! Also, very cool to see what became of whiteout's car - I always hope that it would get a manual swap one day. Very happy to help you out with any advice needed on the manual swap and can easily fix you up with the remaining parts you're gonna need. Feel free to drop me a PM and we can chat.

Agreed with above; the only part of notable worth on it is the external gearbox actuator. That alone costs nearly as much as you payed for the transmission.

Please note too that these transmissions were made by Graziano, a subsidiary of Oerlikon, not by Ferrari. Just like they buy in the DCT transmissions, they also bought in ours.
