Best sounding V12 in Australia. I got into emails with the owner of another Group A Jaguar in Australia about 3 months ago,0ne owner only raced once car,but he went very still when I asked him about selling the car, that lies in a farm area in NSW,from what I could work out.Not in the class of a TWR car but still a log booked Group A Jaguar V12. Have you heard anything about that car "John Clinton"
I have heard of the car, but never seen a pic of it... what specification is it in? The Willmington car was an uprated road unit, a few nice things in the brakes and suspension, but not a patch on the TWR unit of the time. I would presume Mr Clinton's car would be similar in that regard?
built by Roley Walker, ran at a Eastern Creek enduro final about 87/88. Basic unit, but its a group A car.
The XJ-S is my favourite Jag - just ask me. If you've owned and driven Xk six cylinder Jags and V12 Jags like I have, the V12 engine is bullet proof and exceptional, especially the HE (high efficiency) V12 engine hich was fitted to latter model Jaguar XJ-S (circa 1980 onwards). The HE engine was fuel injected and silky smooth when combined with the GM400 gearbox. It personified the 'pace' part of the catchphase attributed to Jaguar cars of the Sir William Lyons (founder) era, namely "Grace, Space and Pace".
They really weren't very good. I've driven a few myself...they were good enough to drive, and rode very well, but that was about it. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
or the engine catching fire. So the Jag V12 is "bulletproof"? That would explain the excellent resale value then...
lol x 2. They did sound fantastic though. Bouncing off the high rise buildings around the streets of Wellington was just sensational.
was offered one for a thousand pounds when I was in London, was over-priced even then by 2 thousand pounds
Oh come on Rob, the engines built for racing were heavily modified, had little in common with the production engine. Pistons, rods, crank, ancilliaries - nothing made by Jag. Bit like giving Ford credit for Cosworth engines. Show me the endurance racing results for production cars - there aren't any. My reference to resale values stems from the fact that V12 Jags had a reputation for poor reliability and major failures. It was a typical underfunded, under-engineered Jaguar effort, compromised by the narrow engine bay of the XJ-6, which was never intended to have a V engine. They got Weslake to redo the heads for them for the "HE" because they made such a cock up of it themselves. The XJ-S must have been one of the fugliest cars of all time, a chronic piece of British Leyland design-by-committee. Only sad poms bought them, every smart person bought a Merc 450SLC, which was faster, had massive engineering integrity and looked good.
Now this is a Jag I'd like. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Spa 24 hour,Bathurst ect ect. Mercedes benz 450SLC,yea my grand mother bought one new in 1973/4,nothing special ,i often drove it ,solid German car but just a car. FWIW the group A Jaguars in the engine have much in common with the production cars,go read the rules. Production racing? Poor old Krouts, tried twice and failed.
