My favourite weekend is coming up. The only day I will ever open a beer before midday. Its pretty much a 161 lap sprint race nowadays with the reliability of the cars.

Normally the wife and kids go to her Mums for the day. I'm trying to get my little bloke into watching it. Look forward to one day taking them both up there to camp for the weekend.

Hey, I've already bought them their first flanelette shirt. :D Just gotta get them up to the mountain and get that first VB into them. :)

Its a great weekend. I went in my first year when I moved to Sydney from NZ in 1992. I just happened to be at the end of Conrod Straight when Denny Hulme died (RIP) of a heart attack. He just slowly veered towards the wall and slowly came to a stop.

I then started going from 1998 when I returned to Sydney after buying a business up there. Went with the staff and camped for a few years. Had a great time. Its been cleaned up and is a good boys weekend away.

    TAXICAB racing these days, WGAF.

It used to be a tradition with me before they made it into a Australian 2 make series. Now I couldn't care less.

That's not been my experience Speedy. We camped behind the pits. I've never ventured up the mountain other having a quick look during the day. I bought the GTS Coupe when it came out and drove that up. Everyone respects the cars down there and many a people asked to have a look at the car. It can be sen as boganville, but to me they are "real" people and there is actually quite a good cross section of poeple from the community.

I can't believe Judy lets you watch TV for the whole day. If I tried it the whinging would make me want to slit my wrists before the first pit stop.

I've told the story before, but what the hell.

There was a strike (bloody unions) in Vic in 1977 that meant bathurst wasn't going to be televised. A mate and I drove my 246GT at speeds up to 140mph to a hotel room in Albury to watch it.

On the way a small water hose broke and dumped the coolant. I kept driving anyway. I think it cracked a head, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, watched the race. That's the main thing.

I've already told her she can go to her Mums for the day if she wants and take the boys. She knows I love watching Bathurst so it's OK. She asked tonight if Bathurst was on this weekend. I said yep and my Butt will parked there (pointing in my lounge room ;)) so not sure what she's doing. I know what I'm doing.

You're welcome to come over if you want. Maybe the girls can spend the day together. (edit: not here at your place)

A wet weekend will make for some entertaining racing, especially at Bathurst like the good old countback race that had the GTR win instead of Dick Johnson.

Does the burnout pad on the hill still have the same rule about stalling? Anyone is free to do a burnout but if you stall your car gets firebombed.

A friend of a close friend took a brand new AU ute up to Bathurst one year and decided it would be a great idea to do a burnout in front of everyone. The burnout was going well until he stalled it. Apparently people came bolting from all over the place, pulled the guy out and torched his car. The Police didn't do anything as it was a handful vs thousands. The guy didn't know about the 'stall rule' and sat there watching his car burn to the ground, the Police said he was an idiot for going on the pad in the first place, especially with the 'stall rule' LOL.
