Guys, I just plugged in my tender but all i am getting is the red light at the bottom. None of the 3 lights are turning on. With the 430 the tender would indicate when it is charging and a green light would come on after it was fully charged.

Is this something new with the 458 or is my tender not working.

PS: Traded the 430 spider for a 2011 red/tan 458 Coupe. Absolutely love it, but do miss the spider..

    Thanks,

    V

    If I remember correctly

Red light means it is harging
Blinking red light means 80# charged
    Green is charget

It am pretty sure it is on the charger.

When I use mine, the bottom single light comes on with the red light above in the middle of the group of 3. Indicates partially charged and charging.
When fully charged it goes to the fully charged green light above.
Bottom light always stays on when plugged in.
Looks like yours may not be working correctly.

one of the three top lights should be on, yes, and it appears yours are not.

First thing to check is if it is securely plugged (properly) into the charging port....I know, obvious, but may be worth checking the port and plug and that they are clean and making contact.

Beyond that, likely a bad tender, either inop or even the LED's are bad. It looks like you have it still zip-tied to the cardboard, it's a warranty item, ask your dealer for a swap, or if you're close, have them put a known-good-charger on it to eliminate an issue on the car/port side.

Question- when it's plugged in, turn the car power on. You should get a warning if the left TFT that charger is connected. If you get the warning, the tender is possibly working but has inoperative lights...would still swap it.

    hope this helps

If the tender is working, you either have a bad connection to the car or the tender is not properly plugged into the AC main (yes, the light can go on if connected to the car but not connected to AC). If those connections are good, the tender is not working properly.

Do I just turn the key or actually start the car? On turning the key TFT does not give me any warning. Closest dealer is Chicago. About 3 hrs. Il try and call them tomorrow and see if they can change it out for me.

    Thanks guys.

I was talking about the battery tender brand.

You may want to be sure the car is in neutral. Maybe it will not charge unless it is in neutral.
I know the 458 will not start unless the charger is not plugged in.

That's the way to go. Send it back to them and they will test it. When my tender seemed to malfunction when I first got the car, I sent it back and the dealer verified it was fine. There was a problem in the on board circuitry. But I think that is rare.

The factory tender is glitchy to say the least. The Battery Tender Plus brand will do wonders for keeping the car battery up and ready to go.

good to know this. The charger that came with my 2010 458 seems to work at least so far.

I know the charger that came with my 360 in the day looked like Edison designed it while drunk :) it was hugh and looked medival.

I agree on the Battery tender. I have used them for years and they work perfectly. Even when you run over them with a car and they are squashed. Not recommended :)

I also have talked to their engineering people when I had an application question. They where very helpful.

How close are you to Indy. I have a spare charger that I got when I first got my 458 and I have not had to use it yet, the one that came with the car has worked flawlessly and I plug it in whenever I am not driving:)

Sorry for bringing back up an old thread, but I'm having the same issue. Purchased another OEM tender and still not working. OP, did you ever resolve the problem?

    No.
    Yes.

The single, bottom light illuminates when plugged into wall outlet (110V in USA), when successfully connected to the port in the car then one of the three top lights will illuminate depending on charge state

The OEM chargers are simply an old CTEK, two models back with a Ferrari sticker slapped on it and prices jacked up to $400.00. But get this, the Ferrari car plug-in port is exclusive to Ferrari so that a superior modern CTEK which you can buy anywhere can not be used.

    Until now.
Use this dongle to bridge your car to the standard CTEK battery maintainer of your choice. Handles both 110V/220V worldwide units. The dash charging light illuminates with this dongle and just like the original the ignition is disabled. Stash the pricey factory charger and use a modern 8 stage CTEK 4.3 or 3300 at just 20% the cost of an OEM charger

Are the CTEK chargers dual voltage 110 / 220? I've looked at some on Ebay and most do not list the specs other than saying for 12V batteries. I'm looking for something that works with 220V input.

Ive been using a battery tender plus for the last 10 years on my Ferrari's and I've never had a single issue. I had a battery die on my CS which I replaced, but the tender has been rock solid.

    That is a great unit.
I'll bet you got 7 years out of that battery, correct? Having a tender/maintainer religously used really extends the battery life, saving you time, effort and money.

I'd like to say yes but I never keep a car more then approx 18 months so its a bit hard to say how the battery lasts :) However, yes I've always used a battery tender and so far I've never had a battery issue other then the CS I mentioned which came from the previous owner with a dodgy battery that I eventually had to replace.Whats really cool is these tenders are so cheap, mines the same one I got 10 years ago and as I said its been flawless.. currently hooked up to my TAG racing Kart as we prep for our next race :)
