    Hey Gang,

I’m in need of an alternator for my 1985 308 GTS QV and I can’t locate a part company that sells them for a great price since I’m doing all the work installing it. It’s a good thing when you can save $$$. Does anyone might know the part number/product code for a Bosch alternator for my car????

This weekend I drove my car, and notice a very strange smell under or in the spire tire area where the battery was… I took off the battery cover and noticed that the battery was smoking which was acid vapor escaping. I took it out and got a new battery. I then start the car and put a volt meter on both battery terminals and the voltage was bouncing between 15.4 to 17.04

Not a good thing since the alternator should be charging the battery at 14.6 volts or so. Now I have two options… I think!

Replace the alternator which is a pain in the a$$ which I hear from a hell-a-lot of Ferrari chatters out there, or inset a voltage regulator, which there again… what to buy and whom makes one for my car? I also did a web search for anyone who sell alternator/voltage regulators for a Ferrari, and of course a big waste of time… Everyone makes parts for everything else… “Except” you guest it… Ferrari

Has anyone out there ever re-build their own alternator and does this saves any money? If the answer is “yes” what’s involve and will I need special equipment to do this task?

I would like to hear from you guys on this problem please.. I want to get back into the driver seat again, so I do ready need your help.

    Thx
    Rob

no disrespect but there is nothing special about our alternators. ANY starter & ALT shop should be able to rebuild it. i had mine on my GTB done when the belt service was bieng done. i took the alt down to a local guy, $50.00 and it was good as new. he said he can do the starters also, for cheap as they use standard parts. good luck.

What was the turn-around-time to have your alternator re-built? Is most of the 308's have Bosch alternators in them?

    Thx

I had mine rebuilt by a local alternator shop for a very reasonable price.
And he had it ready the next day.
