    Gentlemen:

I've replaced the battery in my 82 308 GTSi and that went a long way towards helping. The battery (had an Interstate that I suspect had a bad cell) no longer runs down after 4 to 5 days and the car does seem to run better.
When I start the car, it always starts first time every time hot or cold, the alternator light will stay "ON" until 2,500 RPM or so, then goes out and stays out. The cars runs 13.5 volts or so until driving at night and then down to just less than 12 volts. The alternator belt is correctly tensioned so I suspect that the internal regulator in the alternator is bad/failing. Does this assessment sound correct? I also understand that it is a good idea to have the alternator "upgraded" to 83 - 85 amps upon rebuild. The manual says it is currently a 65 amp (Bosch A.120.421.251. regulator is a Bosch 0.192.052.005). From searching past acticles it seems that a good alternator shop can both "upgrade" and rebuild. Sound right?

    As always, thanks in advance.

Yep sounds like the regulator. Should get 13-14V all of the time. I had mine rebuilt and upgraded to 85amps. Cost about $100 and only took 2 days. Standard Bosch unit with the only difference being the pulley.
