Hey guys, the car spends a fair amount of time not being used and so the battery has been molested with charging and running dry, charging - repeat to face.
I started using the CtEK on it but the battery is damaged so it's time to replace. I've read here that people prefer the odyssey range and I was thinking the UCR AGM ER30.
It is lighter, and has more crank than the PC925.

I'm open to all other suggestions but given that the battery will spend a lot of time on the CtEK is there any particular element of the battery I should be giving consideration?

    Thanks

I have the PC925 and it has been pointed out that it has less cranking amps than stock. My car has never taken more than 1.5 seconds to turn over so I think I am OK with it. I am always on a charger when not driving and garaged and where I live has no more than a 15 degree swing throughout the year so I might not be the best to gauge your experience by but there are a lot of guys running these and I have yet to find a thread that says my PC925 let me down and I am stranded YMMV

EDIT: I just checked out the specs of your battery! That sucker looks good to me I like the extra weight savings! I might be tempted to post up in the racing section to see if those guys have any thoughts about that battery. Weight is everything to them. 20 lbs!!!!! That's 6 lbs lighter than my 925!

Thanks ST, looking at this Braille seems consistent but it's not a road I wanted to go down.

If I want the odyssey ER30 it only comes with M6 studs so I will need to change the terminals apparently.

I have an Optima red top. It fits with the stock mounting brackets and terminals.

That's what I put in mine as well. It's my understanding that this was the OEM battery for the Scuderia.

I wanted something lighter but with plenty of cranking power hence the odyssey - just need to sort out new terminals

Looking like optima red top now. Or maybe the yellow top which allows for a a deeper cycle

You also have to devise a mounting bracket.

Believe that is correct for the later Scuds. The earlier had a fiamm battery. Time to go find out what is in my car ; )

This thread has a lot of info in it.

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/36...ery-360-a.html

It's worthy to note that this topic was pretty hot in 2007-8 and quite a few guys opted for the Odyssey at that time. That was a few years ago I wonder if any of them have bad stories to tell?

I have purchased an odyssey 34r-pc1500 to replace the wet cell battery that is in the 430 now. It is the suggested battery on the odyssey site. I've read too many bad reviews of optima lately. Since they have moved production down south, the quality seems to have gone the same direction.

The Optima isn't as light as the Odyssey, but it is lighter than the standard wet cell battery since its an AGM design.

What is the model number please for the yellow top with correct post alignment. I can only find reversed alignment models.

I was one of the first; I installed in on 05/18/2007. I was running the 925, the battery was great. After running it to 0 volts not once but twice (stupidity so don't ask), I decided it was time to replace the battery. That was put in about a year ago so even with the abuse the first battery went 6 years.

Thanks John, 6 years is plenty for this kid!

I hope you will entertain some questions...
Did you use a charger on a regular basis?
How many miles did you cover in those 6 years?
Do you have an amplifier for your stereo?

I have to admit my pending stereo upgrade had me the most worried but I am religious with the charger and have a granite digital model that charges within the manufacturers recommended spec.

I have the same charger. It gets used occasionally, by no means regularly. The car has often sat for a week before I go plug it in. 2 weeks is really a little too long. I drove it about 17K during that period. Yes, there is a stereo and pretty good sized amp in the car. I don't listen to the stereo that often and not when the car is parked.

The two trips to 0 volts were when I turned the ignition on to put the top up, got interrupted and went away for a week or more leaving the ignition turned on. Yes Stupid I know but happens and can take a batter to completely flat.

I put an Odyssey PC12 in mine. I got it from my dealer, assuming it would be a perfect fit, but it is a half-inch taller than the battery it replaced. The candy-cane-shaped threaded rods that hold the battery down were barely long enough to reach the bracket. I had to delete the washers. But it's an AGM battery, which I wanted.

I replaced my Maserati battery with the largest Odyssey battery. Performed well as the original FIAMM died very quickly. Now i have a F430 and will be replacing it with an Odyssey when it dies. Only way to go with 99% lead plates and AGM if you plan to keep the car.
