I was thinking of changing my regular battery for one of the AGM type batteries (Odyssey or Optima), principally to avoid corrosion in the battery well area. I don't use the car often, so have to charge the battery in the car, using either a CTEK or DMS charger. Can someone recommend one over the other (Odyssey v. Optima)?

I've had a small DMS (formerly Varley) 30 battery in my Stratos for several years, and it seems adequate for the car. The basic advantage to me is long life and no acid fumes or leaks (corrosion). The DMS should work too in the Dino (the Stratos has a Dino engine also of course), but perhaps in the larger size, but the 246 has airconditioning (sometimes used). I wonder if someone with more knowledge on batteries can comment if DMS would be a good idea as well on the Dino.

    Many thanks.

I am installing the Oddessey lightweight battery in my Dino this weekend.
I will let you know of my experience. I love the light weight (it weighs 15 lbs vs. the 49lbs for the Yellow top Optima I am removing).

No experience with either, I use a Costco size group 9, 1000 CCA but have a quick disconnect that I cutoff when storing for the long term.

I've had both types in the car.

Wasn't impressed with the optima any more than the Interstate.

I'm using an Interstate right now. Only got one season from the Optima.

Optima (red top) works well for me. Of course, installing a cut off switch is more crucial for long Dino battery life in my opinion. The Dino clock kills your battery.
