What is everyone using for a battery hold down on their TRs? I have a model 75 battery (maybe that can be optimized too as there is room) and the original clamp is long gone so I use a NAPA universal clamp. It is basically a long screw with a plastic wedge (and spacers) that puts a vertical axial force on the bottom of the battery. It loosens up a couple of times every year.

For reference I still have the original setup--the bolt is stupid expensive if even still available but the bracket is ~$10.00 and is available. Seems you could have a machine shop make a bolt for a whole lot cheaper than $227.00, or buy a long threaded metric bolt and trap the bracket between two nuts. Your NAPA setup sounds similar to OEM with the exception of the bracket being metal. Mine hasn't loosened in 1.5 yrs of operation.

A standard 8mm bolt can be used.

I have really big hands and I can reach down there to install it.

And you are right. If it is a correct battery and mounted properly they never come loose.

Thanks for the feedback, I was hoping someone had a photo of the original setup!

I will do as suggested and use an 8 mm bolt. One quick question: can you tell me your source for the brackets for $10? I looked on Ricambi's site and they were $87.

some BMW ( where the battery is in the front ) and also VW have the same battery holder, or nearly the same. the thread is 8 mm but the head is a 8 or 10 mm hexagonal

Go to a local carbroker, you will be surprised how many EU cars have a small bracket that will do the same ... ;)

I just looked and it is $9.18

There was not a single part on the entire page for $87

No wonder people complain about prices.
