Battery knob in the boot question

I know real men don't read them but the instructions in your owners manual seem perfectly clear to use the switch !

 

IMO 'preserving battery life' and more important being health of the ECUs at startup it's best to use a battery tender when not in use. When disconnecting the battery via the boot switch your car will need to relearn each time you turn it back on.

 

put a tender on it and leave the car alone, don't keep sending your Ferrari back to school to relearn how to run its motor.

 

If you do read the manual, and your wide see's this, it will show weakness.
Please read the manual somewhere where you wont be disturbed.

 

The OP asked a simple question and you do not need to respond with a snide remark. As some have chimed in, connect a battery tender and leave the nob alone.

Keep the battery charged and keep your hand off the knob.
That's what I do anyway.

 

in the UK 430's have a tracker device fitted as standard. The tracker does have its own internal battery so if some scumbag steals your car and disconnects the main battery, then the tracker remains active. However the tracker battery will go flat after a few days and if the main battery switch is disconnected for a long time the tracker battery can totally die and you will have to replace. I wont say on a public forum where the tracker is fitted, but there is a bit of work in getting to it.
If you have any sort of tracking device in your car I would leave the main battery connected and plugged into a charger/conditioner.

Here's a contrary view.

I only use the battery knob if I'm not going to drive the car for more than 6 weeks. This happens once a year. The ECU re-learning process is short and easy unless you're driving directly to a smog inspection station. I don't use any kind of battery charger or tender and I never have trouble starting my car.

Works for me.

 

I turn it just to say I turned a knob that turns my car on.

Grasshopper has learned.

 

Sounds like the consensus is don't touch your knob. Funny, that's the same thing they told us in Catholic school.

 

yes, I remember 30 sec limit, no shaking.

 

so which do you want to say?
1. leave the knob alone or..
2. leave the NOOB alone
