Is this an alternator problem? Battery light, then airbag light, then ACR light, then engine stalls. Battery is new.

Your battery is discharging, so your alternator is not working. Could just be a loose belt or a bad connection.

If you recently replaced the battery check the connectors at the battery terminals and also the "cut-off" switch as well.

Does any know of 550 alternator replacement alternatives to stock, or Ricambi at $900? Thanks Doug

Moorfan replaced his with a Denso model 101211-7780, intended for a John Deere marine application. IIRC, he said it was an identical fit, except for one mounting hole which required enlarging. It's in his excellent thread "1998 550 Maranello sorting". Search for alternator and it'll probably come up multiple times.

The voltage regulator apparently is fairly critical to keep the Ferrari's Motronics happy, and needs to be a Transpo model IN220E.

While I am completely convinced that the Moorfan alternator solution is a good one, I decided to have mine rebuilt really onthe advice of the vendor for the Denso, John deer marine alternator, believing that the rebuilt one at $100-$200 would likely be as good as new compared with a $400 tag on the new one, plus $35 for a new voltage regulator and a touch more labor to install. One issue that the alternator supplier pointed out is the process of opening up the new alternator to switch out the voltage regulator would, likely void the mfg. warranty vs. a one year warranty on the rebuilt unit. So my total cost at the Ferrari dealer was about $700. Best, Doug
