Hi everyone. I’m thrilled with my first Ferrari, 2015 458 italia. I have had it about a week and driven about 60 miles so just getting familiar. I love it so far, but this morning I received a call from my dealer letting me know my battery is low and I should plug in my tender. I said that seems unlikely since it’s a new battery and I drove it just last evening. She seemed surprised but not as much as I was when I went out to check and sure enough the battery was almost dead! Ha! I’m not in GT3 land anymore!

Anyway, I have purchased a Schumacher charger and it is now up to about 55%. Hopefully ready for a drive in the am. My question is once it is fully charged are there any precautions I need to take when I restart after being nearly completely discharged?

Thanks. I’m really love the car; caught myself already configuring a 488!

That's a bit weird if the battery is the correct specs and new. Didn't you get the trickle charger with it?? In any case, assuming the battery hasn't somehow been "wounded" by poor charging in the past, once it's fully charged it should work just like most car batteries do, if you drive it regularly, the trickle charger will maintain the battery. Obviously longer drives are better than shorter drives to help maintain the battery when being used regularly, these cars have relatively high parasitic electrical draws, so the trickle charger is really a must if the car will sit for days without being driven.

I'm surprised that with a new proper Battery that it would be discharged in <24hr. Should not need to be on a tender so soon@ 60mile drive. Battery should be inspected for a bad cell as failure can happen even with new. What type of new Battery installed. Most guys I know replace with Interstate AGM -eg MT7/48/H6. I just replaced mine in my 2015 that had an improper "spec'd"new battery installed". If battery is good obviously Alternator must be evalutated.
