In the mid 1980's I owned a Swiss spec Boxer, #36959. When I purchased the car I also received the Certificate d'Orgine (aka MSO) which I did not
surrender to the State of Washington when I licensed the car.

While going through papers today I found the MSO, a couple of things strike me as interesting....under Autotelaio (chassis type) the car is refered to as a 512 BB, NOT a BB512 as shown on all badging and technical / sales material!

Also, the factory released this car on May 4, 1981, as this is (to the best of my knowledge) one of the last ten carb cars I was surprised it was not released in June or July.

I will attach links to scans of the doc as well as the car when I owned it.

    Oh, NOW you did it!

Wait 'till Franklin Parker sees THIS!!! LOL!

Interesting....I often make the error as the race cars always put the number first...aka 312P...312PB....

    Beautiful car!

"Ferrari Garage" on the Ferrari owner's site also lists my car as a 512BB... food for thought.

    Nice pics!

Sorry to disagree with you guys, but the 1978 Ferrari brochure calls it a BB512, so that's what its called in my BB book (due out Apr/May this year)

Every piece of literature, both sales and technical, refers to the car as a BB512 or BB512i. I worked at a dealership in those years, I saw plenty of factory literature.

If we really wanted to split hairs (hares?) about the correct factory designation we would use F102 BB (indeed this is also on the MSO).

I suspect the term 512BB got started with the 4.4 liter cars which were actually....365GT4BB!

    Show me a Boxer with a 512BB badge....show me a 365GTB/4 with a Daytona badge!

    Hi Gregg
In that case you most know that what we call the 365GT/4 BB was actually called simply 'Ferrari BB'. I guess that whether its BB512 or 512BB we all know what we're talking about

"Is that the cute little Porsche?" or "What year Porsche is it?"
How many times have you heard either of those, or something similar?
I hate having to explain it without the car being within eyesight, but it still makes me laugh.

I know, almost everyone thinks its a Boxster or a secretary Porsche when you say you own a Boxer, for this reason I say 512 Berlinetta Boxer when describing the car not Berlinetta Boxer 512 though. Maybe all Boxer owners should file a defamation suit against Porsche AG for the similarity of the name they stole.

gee, you were lucky to get that plate. BOXER was gone in NSW so I got BOX44B for my 365 which I really like. Subtle and only the true afficionados would get the 44 bit

44... in chinese numerology... NOT GOOD!!!!

BBOXER was just a click away... not expensive either... I know of some people that would have happily paid 10 times it's cost.
