My BB512i a/c blows cold air for the first hour or so after I start a drive. However after an hour or so the a/c starts blowing warmer air for 30 minutes or so and then start back blowing cold air. It will go back and forth like that . The next day, the a/c will again blow cold and then start back and forth cold to warm again. What should I check?

I am having the same problem with my 75 GT4. I have a new york compressor and a new parker drier. Same original hoses and switches. Mine will blow cold for the first 45 minutes then not so cold thereafter. AC is worthless once ambient temp reaches 90 or higher.
thinking about putting in a larger condensor and retrofitting in a larger different evaporator w/blower fan.

archives talk about our problem in great detail, this might be our problem, http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/308518.html

Your symptom matches that of having water moisture in the sys. The water freezes in the expansion valve, sys warms up, water passes through, cools down and refreezes. The problem with this diagnosis is that it usually happens faster. If you come up with no other ideas, replace the drier, suck down the the sys for a long time and recharge. You might also get a good book on automotive A/C (they all work the same) and using it as a guide to experiment with the operation of the temp control. It will have a capillary tube going to the evaperator to sense temp. It could be that something is amiss with that as well, in terms of the placement of the tube etc..

Rifledriver is on the mark. But you could also check system pressures as well. Any local shop with a/c equipment should beable to do this without a problem. Somtimes when a system is low in charge it will act this way. Check the cycleing times of the compressor. If it seems to cycle on and off quickly then you have low pressure and the system will nedd to be topped up. But be sure to check for a leak somplace after words and reapair as needed.

    Frank,

I agree with the dryer theory, but also I would check the High and Low pressure switches. This is a common problem on the vehicles I use in my business, Dodges, but as was pointed out, a/c is a/c. I also have a number for very reasonable a/c parts for Boxers. Tomorrow I will send it to you, I beieve it was for the dryer and very reasonable. I will be in touch.

    Frank,

The add for the dryers for the Boxers was in the Dec. '03 FCA newsletter, which I cannot seem to find. Perhaps you have it or someone else might. my apologies.
